2013 Toyota Tacoma Crew Cab TRD Sport

Anybody drive one of these? If so what are your thoughts? Likes, dislikes, things to look out for, etc.

Looking into maybe purchasing one of these and selling my current vehicles (2004 DC Tundra, 1999 Rav4).

Owned one. Bought new in 2013. Traded it in in 2018 for a Tundra. Made me sick to get rid of it. Only reason was I upgraded from a small 18’ travel trailer to a 23’ and needed HP to tow it. It was paid off. I bought it for $29000, got 23,500 for trade in.
That truck was never in the shop and it was a phenomenal rig on lava rock crap BLM roads.
Should have kept it. Hindsight a mofo.

There are a few guys on TacomaWorld that hit 400k miles (without an engine rebuild) on early 2nd gens.

The engines have never been the issue, they are solid. it was all the other stuff. If you are solid on fixing stuff yourself, hell, you can ride off into the sunset. My 06, I just got tired of throwing money at it, and bought a 17. Plus, in sunny areas, the 2nd Gen paint was pretty bad.

I paid 30K for my 17 with 80K on it. Dont know that I got the best deal on it but it was the best I could find at the time.

Not sure on the title, i will have to find out. to me 30k for a 43k mile pickup even seems a little high, but i drive old vehicles that i buy with cash haha i could buy this with cash but still...

I feel that. I wanted to puke when I bought mine but I was kind of in a pickle so my hand was a little forced.

Always hard but the thing with that is, more people than not will give them the 30K for it so if you want it your probably going to have to pay it.

I have a TRD Sport that I bought new in 2013. It has about 110k miles on it now and I've had no real issues other than I replaced the pads that separate the leaf springs because they started squeaking like crazy around 85k miles. I typically get around 17 mpg for mixed driving and the best I've ever gotten for pure highway driving is about 20 mpg - I have a camper shell and an aluminum front bumper. It's been a good truck and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

That's what made me buy new each time. Toyota used prices are nuts. Even back in 2006 when I bought my first one, I was looking at used and 03's were nuts. Nothing has changed, they simply hold their value and you will take it one way or the other.

Unless Toyota gives up on the V4s, it will be 4-5 years before they have proven themselves. Until then, the V6s will continue to hold their value.

I paid 7500 for my 140K 01 Tundra in 2012. It got totaled in 2024 with 197K on it and insurance gave me 10500 for it. You know shit doesnt make sense when used cars are appreciating.

My 06 had 220kish rough miles on it. I remember counting $10,500 in cash out in a parking lot on the seat and floor while 3 dudes from El Salvador were watching.

It depends how you plan to use it. I have the exact model about which you are inquiring. It was my son’s truck until his wife wanted an SUV. It has been an easy truck to maintain. The single item I had to replace was a wheel bearing. All other maintenance has been routine. It currently has 140K on it. I do not tow much with it but it does just fine. It is not comparable with my 2018 Tundra and the big V8 in that regard.

I always laugh at folks who complain about the lower MPG of Toyota trucks. Since the 1980s, Toyota trucks are known for their reliability, not their mpg. Go ahead and buy a Chevy, then replace its transmission at 40K and again at 90K as well as other major drive train components while my Tacoma or Tundra is still kicking its original at 300K.

To the OP, if you drive the 04 Tundra a lot, I do think you will be disappointed in the room and comfort of the Tacoma. I have had 2013 and 2015 Tacomas along with 01, 05 and 18 Tundras. They each have their own strengths so you need to think a lot about how you are going to use it. OBTW, I got 380K miles on the 01 Tundra and 295K on the 04 Tundra before they got totaled in accidents. Both were all original and running strong before their early demise.

Just finished,well I have a few things left but wanted it tasteful,capable and reliable.Everything done right to last me to retirement.Im 49 and it’s the nicest and most expensive truck I’ve had.Now that 3 kids are 16-20 I can get something decent.
I could have bought a 2021-23,even a 24 if I wanted it but didn’t.I have always had nice older vehicles.Also almost bought f250 but I drive a f550 at work and after a decade of driving a 2000 4runner this is exactly the truck I wanted.
I plan to enjoy many hunts in it.

I have daily driven my 2007 for 12 years. Crew cab short bed trd. V6 6 speed manual. Bought it with 60k now has 240k. I have done u joints, fuel sending unit and unit barring’s. Other than that just maintenance. I take it everywhere. It is my hunting vehicle. We take it on road trips all over the west coast. I plan on driving it until it has 500k. My wife drives a new 4Runner. But we still take the Tacoma everywhere. I put a canopy on it and a decked drawer system in it for taking my guns to matches. It is a great truck.

I love my ‘11 taco. I bought it with 75k miles on it almost 10 years ago, and I’ve put another 85k miles on it. Knock on wood, I’ve had to do general maintenance, nothing more. It runs like a top, and it will go more places than I care to take it. It’s pretty off-road capable (4” pro comp lift with 33” tires), rides great on all terrains, and drinks gas like a small block v8. The radio did suck, so I put a Sony touch screen in it.
