So these models have a timing chain and not a belt. Good to know. The one I'm looking at only has 43k miles. My buddy has a 14 and loves it. He has put about 100,000 miles on it, many in the mountains. I think he bought it in 2016/2017.
His timing chain did stretch and slipped. Threw it into limp mode a long ways back in the mountains this year. Was not a cheap problem to solve. I dont know that he is the best at maintenance though.
I upgraded from an 01 Tundra to a 17 Tacoma. Night and day difference between the two. My Tacoma drives so much better. Like you, I had an 04 Rav when I had my Tundra. Drove the Rav to save on the fuel mileage that my Tundra got. After getting the Tacoma, I ran the numbers and my Rav got about 2-3 MPG more than my Tacoma so I sold it.
Yes, timing chain. Believe anything after 2004 on Tacomas is a chain. So these models have a timing chain and not a belt. Good to know. The one I'm looking at only has 43k miles.
Yea, thats kind of where I'm at with having the Tundra and Rav4. Both are awesome vehicles, but really the Rav4 only gets about 20-21 mpg. We all know the Tundra is a gas hog. If i could find something that would split the difference it would make sense.
I feel ya there, I pride myself on driving older rigs. But, 2013 is over 10 years old so its really not that new! Old enough to put permanent plates on!only 43k miles?!?! where is it? i'll go buy it
j/k, i just replaced my 87 4Runner with a '96 T100, i'm not ready to drive something so new as 2013
Good to know. I was curious about the mpg, 20 with mixed driving is pretty good in my book! My damn Rav4 gets that and thats my current gas saverI have a 2009, but same truck as you describe, only difference if the one you're looking at probably has a better radio. 165K miles on mine, runs as good as the day I bought it 2 years ago at 140K. I average 20 mpg mixed highway and city, and it's a mostly analog truck which I like -- I can fix most anything that goes wrong on it. I sometimes wish I had the Off-Road model for the e-locker, but if I really cared about that I could add an ARB unit for probably a thousand bucks. And I haven't, so it hasn't mattered ot me yet.
Better than my 01 Tundra!I loved mine, I owned it from 15 until last spring. Ran flawlessly. Oil changes, new battery and a set of plugs at 95k. No issues at all.
Mileage absolutely sucked. 17 mpg was the best I've ever got.
I should clarify, that was highway miles with a canopy. Typical mileage was 15-16.Better than my 01 Tundra!
Unfortunately the one im looking at is an autoI have a 2013 off road and wish I would have kept my 91, especially for the woods. 60k out of the 93k I’ve put on it in 4 years has been off pavement and it’s fine, but really don’t like the gearing in the auto transmission. Buy a stick.
Woofta, i would add a topper to it as wellI should clarify, that was highway miles with a canopy. Typical mileage was 15-16.
