Say you had a miracle and could bowhunt and kill either a mule deer or whitetail wild and fair chase that would score 200”- But could be your only one over 200”- which species would you rather have?

For me location and type of hunt has more influence than the species. Shooting a WT from a spot I scouted/hung stands and hunted smart would be more memorable than a guided hunt. Same goes for MD big difference between stalking in an ag field in eastern Colorado vs camping above 12k feet stalking a giant buck through some cliffs.

Give me a 30" wide muley that is 185 next to a 200+ inch muley who's only 25" wide and I'm killing the 30" buck every time.

Mule Deer obviously, unless it's a genetically modified Coues Whitetail :p
I'm kinda the opposite. I would take a narrower and taller buck versus the wide buck most likely. I'll gladly shoot either but if we're splitting hairs here...

Good question; I said Mulie.

I've pretty much given up on either, instead hunting with a more difficult weapon- a Recurve, and I'm happy with a representative example of the species, though I sometimes still hunt with a compound.

I've seen both in the field...and in person. I found a 217" Whitetail that was shot and lost from a stand I had the option to hunt that morning....and as they famously said in Indiana Jones- I chose poorly.

A buddy killed a 40" wide 230" monster Mulie on a hunt I was on- breathtaking buck.

I've seen one other whitetail from afar and a couple mule deer back in the day that would have went 200" and now realize I would have to spend a lot of time finding and targeting a buck like that to kill one with a bow.

My buddies buddy's kid does that in Montana and spends an incredible amount of time finding and following these big elk and deer. My other guide buddy James Fleming [instagram] spends 300 days a year scouting and he finds giants for his clients every year- Thousands of miles, hundreds of mornings spotting before light and right until dark.

I have come to understand that anyone saying that its lucky just doesn't get it.

How about a 30” wide 200” deer mule deer?

No restrictions on the antler configuration just trying to see which deer species is more popular on Rokslide

I want pictures of the 40” 230!

I would take the whitetail. Even with diminished mule deer, I still think there's a lot more of them around.
