Need a new barrel on a hunting rifle. Wanna do a 20” suppressed in a 7mm. I know the popular option is 7prc but I love speed and kinda wanna try a 28 nosler. Everyone in my circle says “thats dumb do a 7prc”.
Anyone do a 20” 28 nosler?
The prc already struggles with getting full powder burn in the short barrels. I’m not sure 28 would be able to do it, and might lead to some velocity inconsistencies?
My 28 Nosler has finish length of 20.5” and shoots a 175gr Berger elite at 3005fps with 81 grains of retumbo. Hope this helps your decision. 28 is pretty hard on barrels, so keep that in mind. I’m on my second one.
26” on my 7stw, very close to the 28 ballistically, then cut to 24, then cut to 20”. Shoots ok but looks odd without a suppressor. New barrel is a 24” benchmark sender light and will chamber 7prc.
The 28 needs a custom reamer, 195’s and n570 to shine and the n570 eats throats. I burned over .100” in 350 shots.
