One thing to really think about if you're going to try and use it for 2 people at any time, and think you might have to use it to actually sit out some weather, is symmetrical design..
I went to REI (and drug my girlfriend with me) and set up about 7 tents and actually got into them and laid down, sat up, etc etc.
The tents that narrow down at one end drove me nuts, not only do they narrow down but the headspace drops considerably at the end as well.
With the MSR hubba hubba nx, and even now some of the REI branded tents, they have near vertical walls and lots of 'usable space'.
We had to weather out some crazy summer utah storms this past year in the tent, and being able to comfortably have 2 people sitting up, moving around, eating dinner, etc was a HUGE plus to me.
No way we could have done that in tents with other designs.
I use the kuiu mountain star 2p. I bought it solely for my use only but did take my wife with me this year on a three dayer. I thought it did great for us.
I like the price tag on the DR, even with the liner it's still really reasonable. I also like the versatility of the stratospire 2, just not sure about it being non-freestanding.
DR guys, how hard is it to keep drafts out when you get those extra cool nights?
I have about 20 nights in my DR, no expert but i've had condensation more often than not but most of my nights have been cooler. Used it in NV this summer in warm weather and kept everything up high and was ok, had it tightened down in snow and had bad condensation. To answer your question it's easy to stake it down to the ground and sealed up if you want but you'll probably end up with condensation, I think he (Henry Shires) even mentioned somewhere its designed to be open at the bottom at least. Really like this tent but don't have much experience with others, can say it has been more durable than I expected, if I were to try another one the Double Moment looks like a good option also.
Appreciate your help guys, ordered a TT double rainbow yesterday. May pack in and trout fish here in WV and try out my new gear before going to Colorado next year. Next up, a pack......
