Backcountry hunting. Really for 1 person with the option for the old lady.
So, Copper Spur UL2, Tarptend Double Moment, Double Rainbow??

I would move to a 3 person tent for 2 people. the 2p Tents are really only good for 1 person. 3 is a bit better in size. Still Cramped but more doable.

If you're looking for a traditional tent to fit one, maybe two (you and the little lady), and you don't expect to encounter very strong winds or heavy snow fall, the BA Flycreek 2 should work well. I've also heard good things about the Copper Spur, just don't have any experience with it. If you're thinking about floorless and want to keep the price down with sylnylon, SO makes some kick ass shelters. JMO

I have a Double Rainbow for just that..mainly solo use but occasionally the wife for backpacking trips. I'm very happy with it. Everything with stuff sack weighs 41oz on my scale. It doesn't narrow down like a lot of UL tents, and doesn't require trekking poles. The dual vestibules are nice, and so is the price. The only thing I miss is not having a mesh top. Typically, unless it rains or temps drop into the 30s or lower, I don't set up the fly on tents. I like seeing the stars as I fall asleep.

The Double Rainbow is a very nice tent. For 2 people it is a bit cramped but the dual vestibules and entry make it doable with 2 people. My wife and I used ours fine for a few seasons. After a few leisure trips I decided to get us something bigger and we got a Rainshadow 2. It is only a couple oz heavier that the Double Rainbow but has way more room. I really don't see us using the Double Rainbow again unless we have to or we are expecting colder nastier weather as I can use the liner to make it a double wall. The DR also can get a lot of condensation that we don't get with the Rainshadow. I will probably keep the DR for when we need an extra tent for friends or when I am going solo and expecting weather that will keep me in my tent for extended periods where it gets cramped in a one man.

Agreed, my 3 man is packed with my buddy and just some gear in the tent (boots packs, etc in the vestibules). A 2p would be way two small for my liking for sure.

Most 2 person tents are too small for two people....and since you described your wife as "old lady" vs girlfriend, you probably want a little space between ya. Two people can technically fit, but you're practically spooning. I use the copper spur UL2. Love it, but I would still tell my buddies to bring their own tent and bring something bigger if the wife went.

Another consideration is weather. In warmer months a little extra space is nice because it's hot next to some one in those little tents. Also if expecting rain. In these 2 man tents with two people you'll often be up against the sides and more likely to get wet from condensation.

Wife and I use a copper spur 3 with double vestibules, we've been on 10 day hunts with it above timberline . It's a solid tent and you can use it with the rain fly and footprint for lightweight.

Copper Spur UL3. Great for one, good for 2. The UL2 does NOT work very well for two, as it is really a one man tent.

Everybody is correct. Love my CS2 as a 1 man plus gear tent. No way I'm sleeping 2 in it unless it's a life or death emergency.

How bad is condensation with the DR? Does it have an optional liner to help with that? The double moment has a solid liner which I thought may help with the moisture issue. I like the price of the DR better.
This will ultimately be a one man tent. Just thought I would get something that isn't too heavy but have extra room with the option fornhee to fit should she ever decide to tag along. This will not be really likely to happen much it at all. So I hate to get too heavy of a tent to pack around.

I actually don't remember how the condensation in the DR was with just me but with 2 of us there is a fair amount. If you wanted you could always open a side for ventilation if it wasn't raining. When I bought my DR I got the liner you can install but I don't know if they still sell it. It really is a great tent that can also be pitched free standing.

Love my msr hubba hubba nx. I use it solo when hunting and share it with the lady when backpacking in the summer. Great tent in my opinion and it feels way bigger inside than the big Agnes due to the vertical walls. Double vestibules for gear storage

They still sell the liner for the DR. Buddy has one and hasn't had any condensation issues when in it solo. He uses the liner but hasn't needed it.

For not a lot of extra weight you can get the Cloudburst 3. The thing is a palace for one person and would sleep two very comfortably. The DR is going to be tight with two people.

The DR should work fine by your description of what you want. It is a great little tent.

I have the liner for the DR, but haven't used it. We had condensation one night when a storm moved in, but it wasn't too bad except I unknowingly was pushing her into the side. Told her I must have been trying to cuddle :). The next night was fine. I haven't had any condensation issues solo. I would have needed to move up to a 3 man for both of us if I went with the CS. The CS2 isn't wide enough for my pads. Primary use is solo, but I wanted something that would hold us both and didn't want the extra weight and price of a 3-man. My buddies and I have a standing bring your own tent rule.

With the DR, you can also use trekking poles to set up the vestibule as a "porch." Great ventilation and would most likely keep rain out unless it was blowing sideways. I should have done this the one night we got condensation, but I never woke up.

Funny thing is I have had my DR for 4 years before I realized this.

The stratosphere 2 has about the same floor area as the DR. If you don't need a 3 season look at the Rainshadow 2.

Mountain hardware ghost UL 3. Sub 3lbs and realistic 2.5 person. My only complaint is door size is a little small
