2-10 vs 3-15

Depends which scopes you are looking at. With nightforce NXS, the 8 or 10 ounces aren’t worth it to me if it’s a lightweight backpack rifle. If it’s a 10lb rifle that I can shoot well at a long range the extra magnification would be nice. Im not aware of anything 22 ounces or lighter with over 10x magnification that I fully trust.

If it was a Leupold vx5 I’d probably take the extra magnification because they are still light but then again I wouldn’t buy a vx5 to shoot 5-600 yards.

Magnification is real nice when punching paper. It’s not so nice when you need to spot impacts with a hunting weigh rifle. I’ve also seen a handful of videos lately where people shot the wrong animal.. having higher magnification can make shooting the wrong target more likely in my opinion because you aren’t seeing as much in the immediate area and can zero in in the wrong critter.

SWFA SS 6x

Cheap. All the magnification you need/none you don’t. Works at very close ranges. The turrets work and it sends your bullet where it needs to go every time. Fixed power = One less thing to break or fiddle with. Don’t overthink your aiming device. Spend the difference on lots of ammo and get to know your rifle/scope.

SWFA, Nightforce, Bushnell LRHS. Because missing sucks.

For a hunting rifle, 3-10 is what I like, even a 3-9. I think 15x is a bit much for lots of uses and if you need to make a quick follow up shot, it could be harder to get back on target with a 15x.
