1st Varmint attack in floorles shelter

after two seasons in a Sawtooth with no problems I had my quilts stuff sack chewed to bits. my quilt and FL puffy were within feet but not touched,thank goodness. a roll of Tenacious tape is always along so no harm done,but sill..
anyone else ever had to replace or repair gear from rodent attack in a floorles?
any non obvious tricks some of you floorless vets have developed?
im sold on floorles and not going back, but have been suprised by what i have learned on here simply from asking.

Interesting. While not a mouse, I recently came back to my tent and found a snake in my sleeping bag. Your problem has always been a concern of mine, but this is the first time I've heard of it happening. I'll be watching to see what others have to say.

Iv heard them running all over at night. They like to chew on plastic water bladders.

While iv never had a problem in a floor less shelter, I did have a mouse chew through a double wall, 1 man tent (msr hubba) and proceed to enter the tent in the middle of the night. That was fun.

I used to tie a trash bag onto a tie line in my wall tent. A couple years ago I woke to a sound and every time I'd get up to investigate it would stop. Took me forever to figure out that a mouse had climbed up the tent wall and then somehow dropped perfectly and entered the bag. He was rustling around in the bag all night. Now I keep my trash in an enclosed bin.

Not sure if there is an answer for this, but maybe someoe has a trick for this? I think if a rodent wants in bad enough it will chew through whatever to get to it. On a semi-related note, my dad had a rabbit sneak under the vestibule one night in a standard 3 season tent. Once it got in, it couldn't find it's way out and started going berserk (including that dying-rabbit screaming noise). My dad said that was an interesting way to wake up!

This will be my first year floorless, but this has me thinking of rolling up my bed in the morning, putting it in a dry sack and hanging it in a tree with the food... Bad or good idea? Or just inconvenient?

I've never had a problem with rodents/animals in a floor less shelter that I have not had with a floored shelter.
I have had marmot in the west, and raccoons in the east give me fits on occasion no matter what shelter type I have used. Can't say I have any good ideas for keeping them out.
I have always had problems with mice in established camping areas, regardless if it is 100 yards or 12 miles from a parking area.

I haven't had any problems, but have a funny story about one time it happened. Hopefully you guys don't see it as trying to derail the thread.

My sister and one of her friends went to school for a year in Australia. Her and a friend went camping someplace down there and there's a thing called a Quokka (google it). She said it looks kind of like a Kangaroo and a rat had a baby.... It does. They weren't in a floorless shelter, but she said if she left the tent door open at all these things would get in and find food. They left the tent for 2 minutes after it was dark and came back in and there was a quokka in their tent with a bag of chips in one arm and eating chips with the other. Long story short they got the thing out and went to bed. They didn't get the door closed all the way and in the middle of the night it got back in their tent and there were two girls tearing apart a tent in the middle of the night trying to get the thing back outside.

I haven't had any problems with the little critters at all here in Montana, the worst thing i've had was an ear wig wake me up- trying to crawl into my ear.
