I’m green and knew really nothing of this world until very recently when I started lots of research.

I am looking for something practical and not the best ever for the application.

Building a gun for the kids, 6CM threaded with 5/8-24. I am 99%set on the AB raptor 8. This gun will be used and abused but not overly shot, maybe 300 rounds a year.

Additionally, I have a hells canyon speed 300wm that I’ve had for years and am in love with. I do not plan to change anything about it but would like to have the option to thread a can on. It has the m13-.75 threads.

I have read lots on adaptors and understand the debate, but willing to take the risk of shooting with it after making sure the line of flight is clear.

Two questions within my thought process…
Unknown’s adaptor looks designed for an OTB can but they don’t make one in my 300wm threads. The other adaptors on the market look fine but not sure they will work with the can? I’d like to spend whatever is needed for the highest quality adaptor, any recommendations?

Second, I know I’ll need the 7.62 can for the 300wm and having an over cal can for the 6CM isn’t ideal, but surely it’ll be plenty effective for the kids to shoot? Part two of that thought is that since the cal size isn’t ideal for the 6CM what if I bump up to the Raptor 10 to help a little more? Adds 1.5 ounces and an inch in length, both I can easily live with and wouldn’t think twice about, if there is a positive difference in performance on both guns.

Thanks

You can't go wrong with an AB suppressor. I was on this road a few years ago and wanted maximum suppression for my kids and for shooting around the house, etc. I opted for the AB 10stack and 5 inch reflex. It's an impressive can with the flush mount on .223, 6.5cm, 30-06, etc. And with the reflex it's great on the magnums.

I would never not recommend AB if you can work out the adapters.

I don't use mine with the reflex on anything with an adapter, tho....even though I think I have a plan to get a stuck adapter out if I had one decide to come off the barrel with the reflex.

Getting my girls behind suppressed rifles has been awesome. But you'll probably end up with a few more suppressors once you take the plunge.

I don’t think you will be unhappy with your AB Raptor 8 with 3” reflex. I really like mine.

I’m using a .375 AB Raptor 10 with 3” reflex on my 9.3x62. I have to use ab adapter with it, but that’s no trouble. Just use roksett to keep the adapter permanently on the barrel.

I might be in the minority on this, but i would look into the Sico Omega. I have both the AB 8 stack and the Omega. Sound wise they are comparable but the AB wins, recoil wise it’s not even close, Omega all day. I know the 6cm doesn’t kick but it will come down close to a 223 recoil. Where it will really shine on the recoil is your 300wm!! I’ve got several cans, all of them are good in their own way, but when someone asks what can to buy for their first one, i always go back to the omega, it’s just a great all around can! In the end you won’t be disappointed with either, but i find myself grabbing the Omega out of the safe 9 out of 10 times over the AB.

Instead of the adopter route with the risk of the adaptor getting stuck, and with my not strong desire to roksett adaptor onto the browning, would a custom hub with the correct threads be better? It would eliminate the reflex, which would be a bummer, but would the 8 or 10 still suppress well enough for someone?

Or, I can’t find much detail but can you buy reflexes without buying a new can? I could get the 5” reflex and roksett an adapter in it, and have that reflex be only for the browning. When wanting to use on the 6CM, spin on a 3 inch direct thread reflex to the hub mount of the can and then onto the gun. Does that make sense?

No, it doesn’t make sense. Roksett the adapter to the barrel because that barrel always needs an adapter.

Just get a flush mount can like the nomad xc, reaper, or SAW Orev and forget worrying about adapters in a reflex. Rockset an adapter on the browning and go forth without worrying about swapping hubs or reflex again.

I prefer a Plan B Hub mount on my suppressors that go on multiple rifles. They have a built in muzzle break that protects the rifle threads & allows shooting the rifle with no suppressor mounted (expect a different, but repeatable difference in POI). You can get the muzzle device in any thread imaginable.

I find I get a more repeatable return to zero with a hub mount & if something gets cross threaded, I’ll only be replacing some relatively inexpensive components, rather than retreading a barrel… and I have the capability to rethread a barrel in about a half hour :)

The Raptors do not use HUB threads. I'm not aware of anyone selling a direct mount rear cap that fits a Raptor.

If you want HUB, then get a Reaper.

I still like my Raptor 8, they are a solid can. I would probably get a 30 cal Raptor 10 if I had it to do again and then add a Zero Gravity or Unkown Suppressors caliber specific can later.

If truly only ever going to own one can (my original plan), I would still get a Raptor 8 (or a Reaper with reflex).

Man direct thread all the way. Rockset adapter on the 300 and you’re good. Love my AB raptor. No issues with larger bore can on the 6cm. It will be quieter than a smaller can that’s 6cm sized.
