1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

Who's got Springfield EMP experience, particularly in the 4" format?

I've got my bad idea jeans on. Considering a variety of net worth reduction techniques:

1) Convince someone to A-cut one for a COA (is there even enough width?)

2) Convince someone to bury a Bowmar (is there even enough length?)

3) Send to a smith to mill front cocking serrations and install a roll trigger (probably the only rational idea here)

4) Send to a smith to somehow attach a light rail or some other provision to carry with a TLR-7

I should probably just buy a second C but I'm curious about the single stack 9mm reduced grip world.

Springfield launched COA cuts on their Operator, TRP, and Prodigy models. I was planning to pull the trigger on an operator and discovered this. As of now I’ve only found single stacks in 45 but likely just a matter of time until the 9mm versions hit the streets.

Where? I do not see that on their website.

Big day in the Sponge household, OG-6s, Reaper, and new 1911 all released from jail/delivered today. Good thing the wife is out of town.

Springfield Garrison, 4.25" 9mm, blued. Somewhat inspired by Forms throwaway comment that Garrisons are decent pistols, @Hypernatremia Tisas Tank commander build, and a general interest in Commander sized 1911's. @43.6N Operator is pretty slick too. I have some plans for building this out, and my main interest is a solid frame/slide/barrel to start with, but its nice it comes with stuff like beavertail safety and decent sight cuts and classic 1911 styling. MIM stuff will get replaced along the way.

Walked over to the indoor range after doing the paper work, a few dry fires then a 258/300 FBI instructor Qual (now my go comparison between pistols, always shot from low ready - indoor range rules) and then some more general shooting including specifically testing extractor function.

Trying out the olive oil lube, seems to work fine so far.

Tested extractor function shooting strong hand only and both hands with no mag inserted, 9 rounds each of Magtech brass case 115 gr. Had one case drop thru the magwell on the strong hand only portion, otherwise ejection was 4 o'clock with the case moving mostly horizontal out of the gun. With loaded mag ejection is 4 o'clock with about 1 foot of rise off the gun. No shooting malfunctions other than that. A Wilson bulletproof extractor is en-route.

The provided 9 round flush magazine seems to feed fine, however, if loading +1, when removing the mag to top it off, more often than not a round strips off inside the magwell. Is this a normal thing?
Anyways, some 10 round Mecgars are on order, the provided 9 rounder will be on range duty.

Trigger is decent, but maybe smidge heavy. The KC roll trigger kit is calling my name, but will run with the stock trigger for a bit. Sights are 3-dot, they will get replaced with Dawsons. I will do some sort of magwell, Chen SI magwell looks sexy as hell. Really like the slim grips, may grit them, they're kinda slick as is. Front strap will get grip tape for now.

Bushing seems decently snug, but the barrel seems to have more play than I would expect at the back end when field stripped. However, I don't have much experience here or points of comparison.

The significant increase in dispersion from 7 to 15 yards I really want to blame on the sights and their lack of precision, but there was some questionable trigger work going on too.

This is one of, if not my favorite, threads here. Thanks all for the inspiration.

I can’t stand bobtails. As in- not an option I will accept at all.

The bottom of the grip is missing in my hand- that’s what it feels like. There is a small objective difference in shooting, but a very large perception difference to me.

And they look stupid.

I was going to sarcastically comment on that picture of the Delta style on the leg; “how is it possible to CC a non bobbed, non “melted” full size 1911”? Thanks for more info.

Nah, you need ALL the lumens...
The new Surefire XC3 Sub Weaponlight (NOT the XC3 Weaponlight, which is less) is 1000 Lumens (same as the TLR-1 HL), although it's 13 000 vs 20 000 candela, and 45 mins vs 90 mins runtime.

And that compares to this for the Streamlight TLR 7-X: 725 lumens; 9,500 candela; 195m beam; runs 1.5 hours.

Pretty compact package for CC: https://www.surefire.com/xc3-sub-weaponlight/

The X300U has a higher output (1000 vs 650) than the Turbo with 15min less time, but I can't remember if it has a little wider "hot spot" than the Turbo. Both are same price. I don't have any time with the modlite.

The x300U is bright as hell. It lit up a mountain lion at around 170yds behind my house last year, FWIW.
I think T-Rex Arms has a video on the Surefire product pages that shows the difference between the 300 and the Turbo at night - it's a pretty good demonstration.

@RockAndSage - I'm not going to look it up - about to dash out, and a bit allergic to T-Rex after they shafted Lucas, but you should be able to find it easily.

Specs for the X300UB (the B has the slot-head screw, and more solid a mount than the QD of the X300UA): 1000 lumens, 11300 candela (so, less than the 13 000 of the XC3 Sub Weaponlight and the 20 000 of the TLR-1 HL), 213 m distance (vs 283 m of the TLR-1 HL), and 1.25 hours high runtime (vs 1.5 for the TLR-1 HL).

I currently have a X300UB on a Tisas Raider, and a TLR 7-X on a Bul 5" single-stack EDC. Will try to get you pics for context / comparison later.

Note that Tenicor don't do holsters for the TLR-7 or the Modlite - only the X300 or the TLR-1.

As they're likely the best Kydex AIWB option, then the X300 may be the go ...

Why no suppressors on the 1911/2011's?

Unlike attaching a suppressor to a rifle, they change the recoil dynamics quite a bit, making them useless for training. That's completely separate from the holster usage. They also add so much length beyond your hands that in a house you might as well be using a carbine. And they can be especially difficult to get a 1911 running reliably with, for a number of reasons. Any time you'd need a suppressed weapon, a suppressed centerfire pistol is just about the last one you'd choose.

Appreciate it, thank you.

That sounds pretty appealing, thanks for the clarification on model too. How is it on the inside of a house? Too much at all?
It's bright for sure. It's painful to look at that's for sure.

Thanks for the comparison.
