1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

So I've spent several hours on YouTube and doing research on various double stack 1911 9's.

I'm pretty well set on a Kimber 2k11 pro comp 4.25". Price ain't bad either. I mean sure it's like 5 or 6 Glocks bbbuttt dang it looks sexy!

Apparently Kimber is under new ownership and they no longer have QC issues.

I was really looking at the Staccado HD P4 but apparently the guide rod rattles around. Is this true?
Is there another Staccato model that's in that 2500 range? Going to check their site in the am for their bargain bin. But pretty sure I'm going to the Kimber.

Also looked into the Prodigy. The newer gen's seem to be very very good for their cheaper price tag. But they're kind of like a Glock, you buy them then spend a few hundred to make them the way you want.

Stealth Arms Platypus has holster availability issues. So that's a non starter. If I can't get a Tier 1 for it I don't want it.

Don't really want to go turkey made even though they're really good.

I will say after all the research I appreciate how simple Glocks are Especially taking them apart.

If your budget is $2500, why not a staccato c?

I bought the 5” version of that Kimber a few weeks ago, I’m getting close to 1000 rounds through it and it has been problem free.
I got mine off euro optic for sub $2000.

Is it new ownership, or just new management?

To be fair, I haven't bothered to do a web search to find this out ... but the only references I've heard are people referring to new management. Would be interesting to see if new owners as well - and why they might have had an interest in turning Kimber around. (We know about the old leadership ... which was apparently a SIGnificant part of the problem ...)

Pretty good price and figured I'd support a Rokslide friendly company.

I guess out of the gate I need to strap to a shorter trigger shoe for my tiny hands. Then I need a Dawson sight plate.

Picked her up this morning and ran 380'isn rounds through her with zero flaws.

First time shooting any sort of 1911.

One of the concerns I saw when looking at the Kimbers the C&H plates that came with the gun. Kimber must have listened because mine came with a Tag brand plate.

Other issue I knew about from YouTube was the mag release is stiff. Not sure if there's a fix for that or just needs to be used more.

I will be buying a smaller grip for it. I have really small hands. So I need something that's as slim as possible.
Also already have a shorter trigger shoe coming that will help that too.

As far as shooting it goes, it was mind blowing. First shot was an X at 10 yards. The new SRO was dead nuts on!

It's crazy how much more consistent I am with this thing vs any other pistol. It was child's play to shoot tiny groups. Velo can sized group at 10-15 yards with no crazy wtfs.

The trigger is epic. But to be fair I can only compare it to a higher end Glock after market.

The comp is great!!! I shot at the indoor range so I couldn't shoot more than two double taps. But it was so easy to stay on target and get off two accurate shots. I'll run her out side next weekend and have some real fun. But the comp didn't seem super loud or annoying at all. But switching to my G19 I could definitely feel the difference it makes in muzzle rise.

I don't think I made a bad purchase at all. Just need to maybe change the mag release spring and the grip. And trigger shoe.

There really aren’t any smaller grips- 2011’s are just fat. The short trigger will help a bunch.

Trying out some edge grips for my P211 just to see how they feel. Will report back once I do a range session with them but that'll likely be a couple weeks. The texture is 32 grit and they're sized specifically for my hands so the fit is great as expected. For only $75 I figured why not?

Coa still seems to be unobtainium in practical terms. Even if you buy one I haven't found a Smith who will do the cut on anything other than a Glock. Super annoying.

Picked up a Tisas DS 4.25 gen 2 used this week for a very reasonable price. Shot it today. Trigger was terrible compared to to the single stack model. Looking to improve the trigger. UTube states the easiest is to reduce the main spring to 19lbs. Is this recommended or will it impact reliability?

If. It is recommended what manufacturers are suggested?

Literally felt like the safety was on for 2 full mags. To compare I have 2 staccato,’s sti guardian and a a Tisas full size single stack all in 9mm. The STI has the best trigger followed by the Staccato then the Tisas. The Tisas is grittier and has a heavier pull but is low enough that it is similar to my single six Ruger revolvers. This DS Tisas felt like the safety was on. My trigger scale has it at 5lbs and it feels crisp with minimal take up when empty. Loaded it is different story. You can feel a definite wall that you have to break through. The STI &Staccatos are touch it and go. Much less effort and thought with the more expensive guns.

This will be a truck gun but I would like the trigger to be “similar” to the others. I am not expecting the same level or precision. I would like to see if I can improve the TDS trigger from where it is with a lighter pull.

The fact that the trigger pull changes when it is loaded is a bit interesting. Lock the slide back on an empty weapon, look to see if the disconnector or the trigger bow are protruding into the mag channel. Also check with the slide fully forward (you’ll obviously need a light).

Verified the spring is not protruding into the mag well.
I did compare the Staccato C trigger pull (5 pulls avg 2.7 ) to the TDS pull (5 pulls avg 4.11).

If the change occurs with mag in vs mag out, the first thing that comes to mind is that the trigger bow may be bent in a bit, riding along the mag and adding friction. A properly tuned trigger bow won't be touching the mag, and won't be putting tension against the sidewalls of the frame inside the channel it's recessed in either.

One way to test for this is to pull the mainspring housing, remove the sear spring, and then hold the gun nose-down without the mag in. Press the trigger back, and then quickly remove your finger - the trigger should slide freely back to it's full-forward position just from gravity, loose and unimpeded. Then do the same thing with the mag in.

The TDS has an average of 4.11lbs pull. I’m assuming thats without a mag in it? How much does it change when it has a mag in it?
