I think it depends what you want to do with it, and also personal preference. Non-island comps and ports seem to have a less dramatic, or diminishing effect on perceived recoil the longer the barrel is. If you shoot indoors frequently they're a little louder and more percussive. There's also the potential to be hit with hot shrapnel shooting with a port/comp when shooting from retention if you plan to carry it, so that's something to keep in mind. They do make a difference though.

When I was shopping around the comp'd models were about $150-$200 more. If you compete they would put you in the open division. I went with non-comp because it was cheaper, and after all of my panic buying is up in August I want to start getting into local competitions with some work buddies. If you don't plan to compete, carry it, or shoot indoors primarily then comp is probably the way to go.

What height did you end up doing for the sights? Where is your impact at now?

Update on the Dawson sights, they are excellent and an huge upgrade from the factory option. So much easier to get on target and stay on target with the black rear and fiber optic front.

The impact height seems about perfect using the system on their website. I question if the rear sight needs a slight adjustment or if I just need more practice. I will shoot my Glock dead center if I focus on a good trigger pull but I’m still learning the Tisas so it may be me causing it to shoot left.

This Tisas continues to impress me. Shooting in the cold (16 degrees today) I really disliked my Glock as the trigger and slide movement was very “snappy” and uncomfortable with cold fingers and hands. The Tisas 1911 is much nicer in terms of recoil and much more comfortable to shoot with cold hands as a result. It ran 5 different ammo types without any issues today and shoots 124 HSTs very well.

What is it about these versus the others that shows such promise? And if true a 4" or 4.25 length would be cool to see in the future. Also assuming grip size is not 1911 but 2011 (staccato, tisas ds) sized.

They have shown a huge move towards making reliable guns again with the 2k11. They have taken that and applied it to the Warrior DS, but in a classic 1911 style. They are making a big deal about how their guns are being made to run straight out of the box, and what little I have seen they are very reminiscent of Staccato in 2019.


Yes they are true 2011 mags and frame.

You know, I don’t know. Kimber hasn’t been in contention for 20 years so I haven’t paid any attention to them.

have you looked at the new Springfield 10-8?

Briefly. It’s fine. I’m jaded however. Springfield broke apart their custom shop and discontinued the Pro. They were real pistols.

Not to derail this any further but where do the pros in here stand on red dots on 1911's? Gotta have one if you can or messes with the aesthetic of the gun? I've always preferred the clean look of the classic 1911 but there's something fun about shooting with a dot as well.

If you want a dot on a 1911/2011- Aimpoint COA. Best choice.

Whether you want or need one is up to each person.

A big part of the reason I bought my black 1911 (after this thread and others) was ... it was the last one available - and was discounted.

The reason I bought the matching stainless model was ... it was the last one available, and was being discounted.

I'd really like the Commander-length SOF ... all I need to do is wait for my local dealer's pre-order notice: they offer pre-orders ... wait for it ... at a discount, which helps them to meet their minimum order amounts.

So: buy late, get cheap. Buy early, get cheap. Justified.

Ok. There was probably 40 Springfield pistols alone with COA’s at SHOT. They may not be able to be in hand today, but they are coming.

I did a quick search (on my phone, on a plane) and it seems there may not yet be a plate for the COA, at least for the Staccato. I hope my search skills are off, or that it too is on the way.

I don’t know that you’ll get a plate system. Well, I’m sure someone will make them, but it’s really meant to have the slide cut for it correctly.

I've also been in touch with Bryan from Wood Caliber and let him know about this thread, and that a few of us now have sourced grips from him thanks to Rokslide. (@Ryan Avery)
