I've followed Broz and others advice and shoot the 215 hybrid on top of 77gr of H1000...Im getting 2825 fps outta my 26 inch barrel weatherby backcountry. Excellent round.

Im going to be trying the berger 215's as well as the new Hornady e tips to see which one my gun likes better. I have no problem single feeding my long range rounds. So far all I have shot is factory 180's just for the brass and barrel brake in. Speaking of brakes, my rifle is braked and there really isnt a lot of recoil. So far loving this 300 win mag.

FWIW, my OAL with the 215 in a 300 win is shorter than I like them at 3.630" and is -.040" off the lands. That puts one on the lands at 3.670" The last new factory REM 700 Long Range across my bench needed about 3.700"~ 3.710" to get one on the lands. This is off memory but I believe it to be close.

Out of curiosity, and for discussion's sake, how do you 300 WM guys (and experts, testers, try-ers, etc) feel the 195 gr 7mm stacks up against the .308 215 gr? With a BC of .755 at say, 3050fps?

I crunched some numbers and on paper, it looks like a hell of a hard hitting bullet. That said, some bullets seem to kill better despite what numbers may say. What do you think?

We did an elk management hunt on the ranch I manage this season. I took many hunters out and let them use one of my rigs if we needed to reach out a bit. My 3 rifles used were a 300 win mag with a velocity of 3035 with the 215's, a full custom 7mm-300 win with the new 195's at 2950 fps and my 338 terminator with 300 gr Berger OTM's at 3160. During this management hunt and the regular season we took about 67 head of elk. I was there for at least 50 kills maybe more. I watched over a dozen taken with the 7mm and 195 combo. From these observations and many others over the past years I can tell you , in my opinion, there is no doubt in my mind the 230 or 215 in a 30 cal kill better and quicker than the 168, 180 and the 195's in a 7mm. And the 300 gr in the .338 trumps them both for quick kills. They all will kill elk, but bigger kills faster. Now take this a step further to a point of impact where shot placement is not perfect, and the results are the same only even more evident.

Sounds like 215s will be no problem in your rifle mt100.

My barrel is short, 20 inches I believe (tikka t3 30-06)

I am real curious to see what velocity you could get. What is your bullet choice now with a 10 twist?

Honestly, I haven't ever put much time into finding a load that it really likes. I bought it when I was in college and it was in a line of other rifles that shot pretty well. I always shot either 180grain Scirocco II s or 180grain Accubonds in factory offerings. Now that I am handloading it's tempting to put time and money into every rifle I own but currently I don't have dies for 30-06. And I have a pretty good stash of factory ammo on hand.

I looked in my Berger Manual and given the long barrel, I would estimate somewhere around 2600 would be doable. My rifle is a break action single shot also, so not.something I would want to run to awful hard with hot, heavy loads.
