185 juggernaut/otm tactical on elk

I was getting 2550fps with the Juggs and a little over 2600fps with 180EH without pressure signs on ADG brass. Accuracy and ES was fantastic. I might just have a slow barrel though. Will likely try the 168 Hybrids for ~2800fps+ and if I get there work the Nose Ring in.

On the 338 LI I just finished the first round of fireforming and plan to work load dev with H1000 and the 250's, maybe N565 if needed. Sounds like N570 is pure magic with the 300gr pills.

Something was way off with that setup. I have a 21” 300 SAUM improved (similar case capacity as 300WSM) and get over 3000fps with 185 Juggs and RL26. N570 was too slow.

Thank you for the note. It is an 18'' bbl on my 300WSM, first time I have run less than a 20'' and the FPS drop did seem excessive on this one. I might give N565 a try.

565 seems too slow a burn rate for the application to me. Id be looking at RL16, N555, N560 type powders if you want better velocity.

Tried N560 and was able to reach 2723fps @ 68.0 grains with the 180EH.
Still thinking about trying the 168 hybrid now that they are available.

Alex Wheeler had a post on accurateshooter a couple years ago about the 300wsm and the 185 Jugg that was quickly deleted. It basically said the combo was the easiest combo to stay in tune he'd experienced. It was the reason I built a 18" 300wsm. I ordered some 185 Juggs, but I have a ton of 180 Accubonds and they shot great at 2850 so I stuck with them. I'm very happy with how the rifle turned out (Atlas / proof / stockys stock / Scythe / LHT) I'll probably try the 185 Juggs before next elk season.

A friend of mine built a300 wsm on a vampire with a 24” med Palma Bart. He shoots the juggs. The he had Manson built him a reamer specifically for that combo. The rifle hammers, 2 cows taken with that rifle this past season, bullet performed as expected.

Another option might be the 175 TMK.

Any chance you would share your load or know what Alex’s was for the 18” with juggs?

My load is 65.2 of RL17 with 180 accubonds for 2850. And Alex's post was quickly deleted so I don't remember what he was using.

He also posted about it on LRO, it’s his all around rifle. But his has a 24” barrel.

All around hunting rifle.

While most of what I do is long range oriented I like to have a basic hunting rifle. I really enjoy shooting and tuning my rifles at long range and playing with the bigger stuff out to 2k. But at least for me, most of my shots have been inside 600yds and I find myself grabbing a lighter...
