looking at getting a new rifle and wondering if an 18" barrel is too short for the 6.5 creed? there would be a 7" suppressor screwed on but i didn't know if 18" of barrel (1:8) would be long enough to stabilize the bullet? would it negate any advantage it might have over a .308 in the same length barrel?

I cut one from 24" to 18". Still very accurate but slooooow. Like 2400 fps with 140s

I tried a little Creedmor experiment with a Suppressor. Like TxxAgg, I had a major speed fail. My muzzleloader was faster... :)

You reloading or factory fodder?

the two 18” 6.5 creedmoor I’ve been around had a 2550fps launch with 147gr factory ammo.

launch speed isn’t impact speed, I’d lean heavy on the .7bc

put it this way the 24” 2700fps launch will be down to 18” in launch at 100 yards give or take. Wind drift differences are minor out to 1800fps minimum velocity threshold.

I have the dies and supplies for .308 just haven’t messed around with reloading in about 5 years. But I might get back into it with my next rifle purchase. So reloading isn’t out of the picture completely with a 6.5

Have 2 6.5x47 Lapuas, one 18" and one 19". The 18" does 2670 fps with 140 vld. Have the 19" shooting very accurately with 135 classic bergers at 2700 fps. Both have a UL7 on them so another 6" of additional length or so. Super nice for packing and killing critters.

I took a Tikka CTR and chopped it to 18.
It wears a TBAC ultra 7. Always.
Stabilizes 147s just fine. But I hunt with 130s.
It’s so handy and the deer don’t mind it moving slow. Neither does the 600,800,1000 yard gong.
