Can anyone tell me the weight on a Bartlein 3B finished at 18”? Getting ready to order a 22 Creedmoor prefit and would like to see some weights on similar barrel configurations before deciding on contour.

Is their a desired muzzle od goal at 18in? 0.710 or so for 5/8x24 threads? I know the Ace sp2 contour at 18in is right at 0.705.

Judging by the coutour spec on Bartlein website, the total taper from neck to muzzle is 0.200 in 20" of length, so if you're cutting off 8" x 0.010" taper per inch you'll be pretty close to 0.780" with 18in finish.

By running the numbers a Bart 2B at 18in will be right around 0.700", which is the smallest OD most smiths like to cut at 5/8x24.

Unless someone has exactly what you are looking for to put on a scale you won’t get a good answer to this. Among other things, the shank length can make a big difference in weight. I will say no matter the length or shank that with a .22 hole in the bore that it’ll be a pig. Maybe that’s what you are looking for though

Put the countour dimensions into one of the barrel weight calculators that pop up if you Google it. It’d be heavier than I’d want in a hunting rifle.

A benchmark #4 is slightly lighter than a bartlein 2b. Thinner at the breech end and heavier at muzzle end so you can maintain 0.70” out at to almost 21”. It’s a great sporter contour even lighter than 2b at shorter finish lengths but with more muzzle dia in most cases.

Bart #2b: 0.850” @ 6” and 0.630 @ 26”
Benchmark #4: 0.825” @ 6” and 0.658” @ 26”

The bartlein, krieger, brux etc traditional sporter contours kind of suck for hunters wanting lighter weight and muzzle threads.

I think someone should come out with a "super light palma" that has a 0.700 muzzle at 26", 0.800 neck at 5.5", with a 1.200 shank diameter. The taper per inch from muzzle back would be 0.005/", so an 18" finish would be 0.740"

I know my 20" light palmas that I cut to a 2.5" shank length, turn to 1.200, finish right at 3# 2oz, the muzzle od is still 0.785".

The palma countours neck down very quickly at the 5.5" line, and dont taper down nearly as much as traditional sporter contours, that's why I really like the light Palma, a lil tweak to make a super light palma would be a great hunting contour.

Check out Patriot Valley Arms’ Straight Taper contour on their Osprey barrels. Their .75” size sounds somewhat similar to what you’re describing.
