My wife recently won a Christensen evoke in 270win at a DU banquet …it has a 22” barrel.
I shoot everything suppressed and hate long rifles so I was looking at cutting it down to 18”.
Anyone done this ??
Any real world reviews on the evoke rifles ??
I swore I’d only shoot tikkas from now on….i was wanting to just trade it for a 8twist tikka 243 but my wife really likes the Evoke 🤦🏻

Unless she’s a gun nut you can talk her into the tikka.. bring up trigger saftey. And the fact you can get an aftermarket stock similar to the evoke and lop she finds comfortable. .270 kick a bit on light rifles. I would imagine she would appreciate a .243. My 2c

I chopped down a 22" remington 700 1 inch at a time just to gather some data as I had decided to speed up the twist on a rebarrel. Here on some numbers if you choose to go that route. All data as based of 270 win, 130gr nosler ballistic tip, 3.34oal, 56.0gr 6.5staball.

3210fps @ 22" 5 shot group=0.58 inch
3177fps @ 21" 5 shot group=0.65 inch
3144fps @ 20" 5=0.74 inch
3089fps @ 19" 5=0.55 inch
3051fps @ 18" 5=1.09 inch ES jumped from 20ish to 43fps.
2973fps @ 17" 5=0.94 inch.

My consensus was I saw a much higher speed loss than anticipated most likely going out the end of the barrel. I didn't see the accuracy get affected until the inconsistent powder burns/ speeds. Maybe you can find this useful if your wanting to chop yours down and wager what you are willing to give up.

Wife likes it. Leave it alone unless she asks for something else is what I would do as well. Been married for a while too;)

If my finance won a rifle at a banquet I’d have a hard time prying it from her hands. Although she loves her tikka, she’d enjoy winning her own. I also wouldn’t wanna devalue or discredit her enjoyment in shooting and hunting, bc after all, I can do as I wish when it comes to that stuff bc she understands.
