16” 7mm08

Pretty much anything would work. One of the downsides of 7-08 is it’s a boring cartridge that almost everything works really well in….

I’m at 19” and have used 162 ELD-M and 150 ELD-X. I know a few others around here running similar in 18”.

Depending on the range you’re looking for, the 120/140 NBT might be good options to get decent velocity. Berger makes a 140gr if you wanna be fancy. Load them over Varget and go kill stuff.

Curious what velocity you were getting with the 162. Loved that bullet in a 280ai, but never shot it in an 08.

Man, makes me wanna get my 7mm08 out again. I put it away bc I was getting light primer strikes. I replaced the spring but also had messed with the firing pin protrusion and I still can’t get it to fire. 😔 It’s a Kimber Montana. Sorry if that derails the post, but if anyone has experience with that I’d appreciate the help.

But ya, I’ve been thinking if I ever got it shorting again I’d like to cut and thread the barrel, was thinking 16 or 18 inches
You should probably sell that POS… 🤔

I’ll call dibs… 😁

What powders y’all using in the shorter barrels? I have a 20” and I know that’s not very short but curious what’s worked well

I had a 7-08 Encore I had an AI reamer ran in...it was a fun little gun. Guy that saw it for the first time "damn, that thing is illegal short" 😂

I fireformed with 162's and they ran 2470, second season I ran 140 ballistic tips and they ran 2690 and ultimately the last few years I hunted with it I ran 120 ballistic tips at 2960. It was a little jumpy but man it knocked the crap out of stuff. I don't miss it but it was a fun little gun to have...

N550 and Staball 6.5 have both worked well for me. Superformance works well too, if temp sensitivity is not an issue.
