Ok. I am reaching out to the experts here. Who makes 150 grain broad heads? I am looking to do some field testing with 150 grain head for elk hunting. Now before you start asking why not just stick with 125 or 100 keep in mind that is not what I am asking. I can buy 100 and 125 grain heads all day long locally but I am seeing that 150 grain at least in my neck of the woods are harder to come by. Any suggestions? I know Iron Will and Grizzly Stick I think it is carries them but who else? Bow: Prime with 60lb draw at 26.5 length of pull. Arrow: VAP TKO Sport 400 spine, etc. Thanks

I use Iron Will, Strickland Helix, and Swhacker mechs, all in a 150.

Are you gonna want a 400 spine arrow with a 150 grain head?

Magnus, German Kinetics, Valkyrie, VPA, DaySix, Wasp.... just to name a few. Also, I know you got a good deal on those 400 spine arrows, but you need a 330/340/350 spine if you plan on running 150gr heads. Way easier to tune a bow to a stiff arrow than a wet noodle, safer as well.

Slick Trick 150 Xbow broadheads are the same as the magnums with a heavier ferrule

so here is the overall truth. I absolutely hate going down roads like this. I hate when people suggest things like hey let us try this arrow setup and so on. Everyone has their own opinions about how things work and rightfully so. So no I don't now if I want a 400 or a 350 spine or whatever. I know that I have 2 dozen 400 spine arrows. Now on the safe side I am only rigging up like 3 total arrows to test to see what happens. if I don't get good results then I may either back down to a 125 grain or get a few 350 spine arrows and see what happens. it is all about trial and error and in the end the real kicker is can I, the hunter, put the shot where it needs to be when the time comes and have I practiced enough. All I know to do is field test and see what happens. I am in no hurry because I have a vertix to hunt whitetail with. Even though funds are not a problem I don't want to spend money foolishly. I take everyones advice here with consideration and research it for sure. so keep the advice coming and ill just go from there and wish for the best. I am an engineer by trade and I stay away from experiments such as this because I know what will happen. I will way over analyze something to where it makes me sick and in the end ill realize that I really didn't need to do all of that. So we will see. Thanks for the tips

Here’s an option no one brought up, 50 grain inserts in a .350 shaft and shoot any of the readily available 100/125 grain heads . . .

I called victory archery and the guy said I was on the edge of 350/400 spine for the weight I have. He said to try it out and see what works and if not go with a 350 spine or lessen weight in front

I just picked up some more VPA 150 3 blades- unvented....and they sure seem a lot smaller than the vented version....though the cutting Dia is not much different.

I switched to 150gr 2-blade Magnus Stinger earlier in the year. I'm shooting a recurve and, if I remember right, I had to cut my arrows by a 1/2" to get them to tune. Previously I was shooting 100gr Stingers. No idea what that translates to on the compound side of things, but I would think a cutting a little off your arrow or backing out a turn on your limb bolts would get them shooting right.

I’ve found that doing my experiments on OT2 has saved me a lot of money. If you prefer trial and error look into ordering from Lancaster. You can buy one shaft if you want vs a dozen. I’d also buy a test kit of field points.

Here is a 150 grain VPA two blades that I got hair popping sharp. Great little broadhead. Some other great 150s I have messed with:
-VPA 3 blade
- VanDiemans
- Ironwills
- RMS Cutthroats

Some other 150s:
- Day Six
- Strickland helix
- Steel Force
- Magnus

But make sure you arn't borderline a weak spine before even throwing a little more weight on the front. A jump in just a small amount like 25 grains can completely changes the dynamic spine of an arrow is it's already borderline weak.

What prime bow are you shooting and I can figure a rough estimate on what spine you need.

Example if you are shooting a prime CT5 at your current draw length. VAP 400 spine at 27", 34 grain aluminum outsert from Victory, and 150 grain broadhead will have you at a good dynamic spine. But I am going off of assumption here because I don't know which prime bow it is.

Prime synergy. Now the problem is this or it may not be a problem but my friend had me order the vap shok ss inserts which I think are 95 grains so that really jacks up the front weight but he swears it will work due to my short draw length. That is why I am only going to have him do a few arrows like that and I guess I should have him do a few with the provided inserts. I have no clue why he recommend going all hulk like on the inserts

You are going to be borderline weakspine. A 350 spine is inherently going to be stiffer but it is way easier to tune a stiff spine vs tuning a weak spine. Along with you will have less flex on impact which will enhance penetration to a degree over a spine that is borderline weak.

good day everyone. I went ahead and ordered 3 VAP elite arrow shafts in a 350 spine. This way I can have some done up with a stiffer arrow and see what happens as well. Since everyone on here and from what I have read shows that I might be on the border with a weak arrow shaft I decided to get those in just in case. Now I can compare variations side by side. I went with those arrow shafts because I wanted to use the 234ss vap shok inserts that I have 12 of. only thing I wanted to change was the arrow shafts.
