working on a new bullet for hunting and I picked this one. I’ve had ok results so far. Initial tests were ok with H1000 but velocities were really low so I kept going up. Ended up at 57.6 H1000 at 2909 with an ES of 7. Shoots about 3/4”. I also did some testing with RL26 today. Groups were really good all .5” or smaller but ES was not great at all like high 30s and 40s. I’m definitely going after the H1000 right now to see if I can get that smaller. I might revisit the RL26 and see if I missed something on my last session. 2 shots were 11 FPS difference and the 3rd was 47 off, so maybe I missed something during reloading and velocity for that outside of the high was 2850. We shall see. Hoping I can get one load soon. Browning X Bolt Pro 6.5 PRC.

Definitely report back. Whether message or comment. Definitely interested in what you find. I don’t have 4831. I do have 565, Retumbo, 7828, RL 22, and Magnum to also try. I may skip the 26 and go for Magnum if I can’t get the H1000 1/2” or smaller.
 
Starting to get dialed in with them now. Other than a few velocity fliers, ES is pretty good and consistent. Still amazes seating lengths can produce certain results. People say it doesn’t matter. But I think it does but what do I know. Another testing in the future to determine if the a couple of the lengths I make again hold up with a like larger shooting group. Pretty optimistic.

I had similar findings regarding seating depth. My 7RM likes 0.080 jump with the 175 ABLR. I could see groups shrink as I approached 0.080 then grew as i went past that.

Out of curiosity, how far are you jumping them in that series of pics?

I'm not rocket magician but those numbers on the groupings look like CBTO measurements less 0.006 per increment.

Started at .026 and every .006 deeper. I think I’m going to dig deeper into .278-.272. I follow a few people that develop loads using the 2 shot method like this and look for that back to back minimum patterns and seat every .006. Once I seen this, I tried it and have been using it on my last 4 load developments with various rifles. And it’s been pretty spot on for fine tuning. Typically you want back to back touching at minimum, but it’s not far off at all being that way. And when you got something back to back you have your window/sweet spot. Then test again with 3-4 shots and then can determine if it’s good. Honestly if this pans out, I’m real happy with this load and will be great for everything.

If you're happy burning up components tweaking and testing, by all means continue. But there's too much variability with 2 shot samples to extrapolate a meaningful "pattern" from. If you want validity to the results you have to shoot larger samples, there's no way around it. For science, when you're done with your load development you should load 10 shots of each of the results you consider to be best and worst, and compare the groups.

This is hunting. Not a professional match. Everyone has there way. This is not what this thread is for. I am not done testing but I’m not shooting a 10 shot group for each load either as that is nothing I’ve ever done and never had any issues with accuracy at various ranges. Appreciate your thought though.
