Which one would you prefer as a hunting bullet in 6.5 Creedmoor? My Tikka likes both in regards to precision and accuracy and I’ve killed whitetail deer with both with good results.

Bump. Just spent some range time today shooting the 147s. Amazing how much they buck the wind compared to a 168 grain ELD-M .308

I was just about to make a thread on this question. I am contemplating a 6.5cm or PRC for mainly mule deer, and the occasional elk under 300 yards (pretty sure both calibers can handle that) and I'm starting to do more research on factory loads and availability before I make my decision. I don't plan on getting into reloading for some time.

I've only loaded 140s because that was what was I got. Looking at Hodgdon, the load numbers seems to be nearly the same for both bullet especially if you use a slightly slower powder for the 147s and they'd potentially be a better choice. I'd say get a box of each and send a bunch downrange. Pick whichever the rifle likes.

In my opinion a 6.5C would make more sense for your intended use. There's 20 times more ammo available and its usually about 1/2 the price of PRC. My 6.5CM killed 3 mule deer last season. Although I have many other rifles chambered for different calibers I'll be taking the 6.5C elk hunting this season.

@fmyth Just wanted I wanted to hear. thank you!
I do occasionally find myself lusting after a 6.5PRC Tikka Roughtech Ember. I have to remind myself that I've never shot at any animal past 400 yards and don't intend to. Based on my research there's really no difference in lethality or accuracy at my self imposed limit of 400 yards.

140 for me, since that's what I found a 2k box of, the 130 tmk has gone mia from the market place, and my battle is cut to 18. 147 is a winner on paper, but I wanted a bit more muzzle velocity.
Which cartridge and how fast are you able to push it from an 18"? What powder? I have an 18" creedmoor and have been considering even dropping down to the 130eldm. Watching for the TMK, too, but not holding my breath. Thanks.

6.5 creed, H4350, haven't gone over the chrono yet but should get 26-2700 based on grt and what others are getting.
