140 inch 8 point?

Start with 140 and subtract.

If he is 18 inside, that's 122 you need elsewhere. Probably less than 30" of mass, I'd say 27. That's 95" you need in beam length and tines. If he has 9" 2's that's 18", 7.5 3's is 15". Maybe 10" in browtines. So that's 43".

95"-43" leaves you with 52, so would need 26" beams.

Different areas produce different "normal" measurements. Where I'm at 27-28" mass is a pretty solid 8, good 10's are normally 30". Rarely see more than 24" beams, but it does happen.

It's hard to tell from pictures, but I think he's close to 140. It's a great deer. For 8's they need serious tine length with tons of mass to get the score up there. I was told by a neighbor that was an official Pope and Young scorer that everyone is concerned about width, but in reality it's the least important measurement. If you compare the "average" width to a really narrow or wide one - it's only a few inches either way on the total score.

For reference - the one I'm holding went 152 4/8, the other was 146 6/8. I feel pretty confident the one I'm holding is the father of the other.

I want someone to score my deer that scores some of the guys' deer on here...

I'm going to say low 130s. Here is how.

22" beams x2=44
16" wide =16
4" mass x 8 =32
4" brows x2 = 8
8" G2s x2 = 16 yours may be 10
7.5' G3s x2 = 15 yours may be 8
Total = 131 maybe mid 135-137 but what you add on tine length above wont make up all you lose on the mass not averaging out to 4".

I am doubting beam length and mass. Those I would put money on being smaller. I have 2 "8points" that score right around 140 without a kicker and mismatched tine or the one with matching split 2s. (technically bothe 10s). Both are similar width at 16.5 wide with well over 4 inch mass on first 3 mass measurements. One has 6" brows 9" g2s and 8" g3s. scores right at 142.5 as an 8pt (add in his matching split g2s he is 147)

I will say some 8pts have surprised me and I just passed a buck last week that may have pushed 140 as an 8. Looking at the video he had a lot more mass than I thought.

I'd say mid 130s.

I shot an 8 point on 10/28 that grossed 135, this one is a little wider but a little less mass than mine

Its doable but I'm guessing your're in the 120's. I've seen an 8pt that would be in the 140's and he had mass and width a lot great than what I'm seeing on yours.. Still a great buck though. Prove us wrong and get it measured up because I'd love to know what it comes out to.

Just for comparison sakes, and staying with the ongoing them of what it takes for an 8 point to reach 140" here are pictures of my 8 point that scored 142" He had mass and tine length, I cant remember exact width but it was only 17 1/2 or 18 maybe. He is the one on the far left in the contest pictures for comparison to other bucks, I had a corner mount done on it and they couldn't fit the mount on the flat board with the others lol16265317_827592060714310_3550811904275831532_n.jpg21457594_10155938640778646_6235747464351435531_o.jpg21414607_10155938641673646_407358824801328175_o.jpg

That's a good picture to show just how deceiving they can be. He looks big on his own, but not THAT big. When he's in with the crowd it's much more obvious how big he is.

@Limbhanger, regardless of its official score, that is a nice buck. I think you will be close to where you want to be, at least with gross score. Please let us know what he tapes out at. Just for reference, the 4x5* in the photo below netted either 138 4/8” or 138 6/8”.

* @Wrench, even though I grew up in your neck of the woods, I always counted the G-1s/brow tines/eye guards on whitetails. Back then, I probably would have counted them on muleys, too, but I seldom ran into any.

I know it's hard to tell from not so good pics, but just going on my last buck that grossed 132, this one is definitely bigger than 127 or 132 gross. Here's another pic, but still not the best, Thanks
Put a tape to him! Lots of youtube vids on how to score. It's as easy as tying your shoes.
Then you won't have to get on here to ask people the impossible... to score your buck from a photo.

Unless, of course, you just want to show him off.😁👍

You rack up of inches for mass, because you get multiple measurements

No mass, no 140inch score

I think the buck that got the championship ribbon is the biggest “seven” I have ever seen in a photo.
