I have been looking at the mavens and the meoptas, wondering if there’s anything else out there better in that range

I have the Maven 12x50 and love them. The only draw back is I can only use them off a tripod. For myself, using them without a tripod is completely worthless because I can't hold them steady enough.

I have the 12X50 Mavens. I love them, They are at the limit of what I can freehand but it is definitely doable and work great off of a tripod. I was also in your shoes 2 years ago and landed on the Mavens but I think in that price range there's a few companies that seem to be worth looking at. My only experience is with the Mavens.

I've used the following 12x50 binos ranked from best to worst. The C-series are owned by one of my hunting partners, so we've been able to compare them side-by-side often.

Swaro EL 12x50
Meopta Meostar 12x50
Vortex Razor 12x50
Maven C.3 12x50

The Meoptas and Vortex were close, but my vortex model were an older pair from Japan. I had to send in the Meoptas due to a loose eyecup, and once I got them back, they are now noticeably better than the Vortex. I don't feel like the Meoptas give up hardly anything optically to the EL's except for the edges being a little less sharp. The Meoptas are heavy and a bit brick-like in their ergos is the biggest complaint for most people.

I haven't been able to look through the Maven B6's, but I assume they are close to the Meoptas optically.

Another vote for the Meopta's. I borrowed a pair for a couple trips, mostly used them off a tripod and was super impressed with them. A bit tougher holding them in hand to get a stable image, but definitely doable.

I’ve heard great things about the meoptas. I had a set of 10x42 meopta that were awesome. My maven b6 are the 10x50 and I think they’re great but haven’t used a Swaro to compare.

I don’t think you’d be wrong by going with either of them

@Lukeduke13, there's a scratched pair of meopta/cableas 12x50's that just popped up in the classifieds for $550 that are a steal if you don't need them in the next 2 months. Send them straight to meopta and they'll get them all tuned up for you for the cost of shipping.

I have the 12x50 Cabelas branded Meoptas. Awesome set of binos. Tried Swaro 15s SLC didn't care for them.
