12 year old gets his first goat

Thanks Becca, I'll tell him what you said. I don't know about the "excellent teacher" part, I'm just bumblin' around out there, and every now and then an idiot (like myself) gets lucky.:) He is a very motivated young man though, which is probably more than half the battle. Thanks again for your kind words. I hope you guy's are having an enjoyable season and getting some meat put away also.

Thanks Bruce. It's a Hyperlite Mountain Gear Ultamid 2. I'm really digging on this shelter for a 2 person UL. Total wt. with everything, including designated CF pole, all 15 stakes (this is including 8-9" Cyclone Groundhogs), and all cordage is right at 32 oz.

Great report here and fine pics...I'm glad that you included a story. Gotta love introducing kids to hunting--especially with this kind of success!

He's hooked for life....

Greg,
That was a great story and photos, thanks for taking the time to post this on the forum. You're doing things right it looks like for sure. Your son has good gear and looks like he was comfortable during the hunt, which is mission critical to keeping kids "wanting" to do it again. I'm sure that you'll be hard pressed to go out hunting now without him wanting to go along. Congratulations.

It's been almost two weeks now since we got home and he just got caught up in school. A few nights ago as we were finishing up with school work (at 10:00 pm) after being hard on it since 3:00 pm, his mom tells him that he will not be taking time off school to go on another hunt again. Man, you would have thought his world was coming to an end....we'll see how she feels in about 11 months from now, sometimes time has a way of making people forget.:)
