If you could by both of these for the same price, which magnification would you stick with for glassing out West, a week every other year at most, but using back East whitetail deer hunting timber?

Sorry guys, After posting I did a search on here vs searching before asking and I can't delete the thread. I see most like the 42 by choice. Thanks!

There are many reasons why 10x42 is the most popular size. The 50 would increase the weight and bulk, but would only help a little with gathering light in the first and last 5-15 minutes of each day.

If you're using them for whitetail hunting more than Western hunting then I'd suggest an 8x42. An added bonus would be the light gathering of the 8x42 would be just a little better than the 10x50, without the additional weight or bulk.

42 mm for me since I need to carry them.
50 mm are fantastic but that’s a large package and more weight on the chest.
i also agree with Elkstabber that the 8x may be a better choice for whitetail back East...if you are a woods hunter. If you hunt on the edge of a field, I’d suggest the 10x.
the 50mm may be better back east but carrying it in the west will get old fast...in my humble opinion.

I had some swaro 10x42 and 10x50 SLCs at the same time. Although the 42s were smaller and lighter, I preferred the 10x50s for my style of hunting (get to a high point and glass). I've since sold the 10x42s and gave the 10x50s to my dad and use the 10x42 EL Range. I really with there was a 10x50 option with the rangefinder binos.

I prefer the 50mm over the 42mm for the amount of light the larger aperture lets in. Its well worth the weight to me and I have never found myself wishing I had less light in early morning and late evenings.
