Update: Thank you for the responses, I appreciate all of the input and suggestions. After much research and discussion I now have a much better understanding of binoculars in general and have numerous makes and models I'm considering. I am flying to Anchorage in a couple of weeks and before making such a large investment I would like the opportunity to actually look through some glass before deciding.

It’s a very good decision to look through what you’ve narrowed your list down to. I tried a number of brands, and models, before finding what best fit my needs. Needless to say, our eyes are all a little different so what someone else likes best, you may not. Ergonomics and weight are also subjective. Put your hands on them and get the best ones that fit you you can afford.

Zeiss conquest during a major sale would fit your budget for some incredible glass. I’ve heard great things about Mavens but haven’t gotten the opportunity to look through any. Good luck!
