1 Action - 2 Bolts - 2 Barrels - what would you build?

I've been buying components for about 6 months now, Have everything listed, just waiting on action to arrive (custom order)

Manners Pro Hunter Adjustable
Hawkins Hunter DBM and Mags 2.98 ( standard ext and Mag)
Trigger Tech Special
6.5mm 8 twist and 7mm 8 twist both are Benchmark # 5 contour, fluted, finished @ 24"
Defiance Anti X, Short Action, nitrated, with 2 bolts, .308 BF and Mag BF.

Original plan was to build 1 rifle with multi barrels...but since I buying components I have sold some other rifles which freed up some "FUN MONEY"!

Option 1 - Stay with the orginal plan, 1 rifle with 2(+) barrels. Thinking 6.5 creedmoor and 7 saum originally
Option 2 - Build 2 rifles, SA & LA. Thinking could move the 7mm into the long action build.

I hunt big game in Alberta, max range would be under 700 yards, most would be under 500 yards.

Suggestions on builds or what would you build?

Two rifles.
Long action 7mm. Build a 7-300prc and shoot 185gr TMK. Headstamped brass is available from ADG.

Short action 6.5mm. 6.5cm is fine

I'm in the 2 rifle camp as well. I never understood the 2 barrel setup unless you don't have the money for 2 seperate rifles. At that point, I'd just have 1 rifle.

Unless there is a regulatory reason that you are limited to one rifle, there is no reason to have a switch barrel rig. The very fact that you are switching barrels, optics, and zeros introduces the potential for error. It’s way better to have two separate guns that are appropriately torqued, loctited, and zeroed.

But in either case, I would likely choose a 223 and a 6 creed/UM/PRC. The former would get the lion’s share of the shooting and likely make the most meat. The latter would get used in cases where law required a larger caliber or in cases where longer shots in windier conditions might be required.

But these discussions of “if you could only have two” are just kinda sad. Guns are fun. If you like something and it makes sense for your use case, buy it. And in all cases, buy more ammo and shoot more. Life is short and fun should be a priority.

Oh I have other rifles. Barrett Feildcraft in 6.5cm and Cooper in 338-06. I've sold off others with the intention of quality over quantity. But I like customs!

I will still have a switch barrel set up for my short action, after all I have 2 bolts for it, might as well try it out.

Not sure what your prices are down there but in Canada, things are getting out of hand...we are looking at

$1900 for my stock
$2500 for my action. $700 for the 2nd bolt
$1000 for Benchmark fluted barrels. $1400 for carbon.
Triggers are $250-400
Nightforce NX8 4-32 $3100
Hawkins bottom metal is $350. Mags are $180 each.

So the switch barrel makes sense I doubt I will ever have more then 2 full custom rifles at these prices with many barrels.

The 6CM has caught my attention as an option.

very different rifle at ups. Ever shot a Feildcraft? Not the best for longer ranges.

6 cm and 6 PRC, that’s my story and I am sticking to it.

So the 6.5cm is your new long range rifle and 7 SAUM your hunting rifle? Could make sense if the 6.5 lives on it for 10 months and then the 7 gets screwed on during hunting, but couldn't imagine multiple barrel swaps a year wouldn't lead to just buying bother action and stick.

Exactly! That’s what the swap would be. Less recoiling set up would live on the action for spring summer for training. Would get swapped out for hunting season depending on the tags I drew, if needed.

Don’t think so. Could be wrong, but I know it’s not easy. KS Arms is 3 hrs from me, they make great barrels and they are $600 for the blank and $300 for fluting.

Barrel blank in whatever contour you want basically for $369 USD and fluting for $175 USD.

Yep. Or $19,000 for two. We pay $1.40 for 1.00 USD. Not good up here. Thats the price.
