$1.3 Million Ram

We’re lucky that people are willing to spend such money to wildlife agencies to shoot a sheep. That said, that tags like this one go for such money because a special sheep exists and that special sheep getting shot by a person who doesn’t have to really do the hunting being a forgone conclusion is still gross.

Life isn't fair and not everyone gets a trophy. The fact that wealthy people support the hunting industry and wildlife conservation is awesome. If you can't afford sheep there's plenty of other things to hunt. Unless Robin Hood comes along, wealthy people will be able to afford nicer things than us peasants.
I get it.

But don’t those sheep belong to we the people? Not just the wealthy ones among us that can buy them for the highest bid?

They do - and we can apply for said sheep tags every year. The odds are complete crap though, hence why these tags go for such insane prices.

Nothing is stopping anyone from applying for sheep tags every year. I’ve been doing that the last few years and entering raffles. Maybe one of these years I’ll get lucky and actually pull a tag.

First off - great ram. Guess it truly “takes a village” nowadays, Geesh. Looks like great fun. When hunting with 1 or 2 other people, it’s hard to haggle over opinions of where/how to “hunt”. I’m sure it was a real peach of a time to get that entire group to agree upon a single thing, like “what time will the day start”.

Anyways… I keep hearing about how far this money goes, and I truly hope it 100% all goes towards that, but if you dig digger into vast majority of large charity organizations, only a measly ~10% of a donation goes towards the intended need (money spent on advertising, payroll, needs of organization, etc). Where can I find the Transparency of the line x line break out of how that money goes toward the intended conservation? Black and white facts; not estimates of where and how funding is spent, but actual bonafide proof.

I’m truly curious. And I’m sure each state / organization has their separate breakouts for how that money is spent, but is that information easily accessible (public record) or are we simply going off “word of mouth” semi-accurate accounting practices?

Sounds fair enough.
Apply for sheep tags forever or just buy a tag for $1.3m

I would also like to see a breakdown of each states auction tag profit allocations and have been curious about that for a while… it would do a lot to bolster support for the tags if they were more transparent about it.

Until someone buys a sheep auction tag and DIY’s it I will always have very mixed to poor feelings about these type of hunts.
What if you took friends? Or do you just have to be by yourself?

I think what most don’t realize is most that can afford Gov Tag, have hit the later years, and have figured out they can’t take their money with them. That puts most in at a likely age they physically probably need the help.

Not to many unknown giants out there, especially in sheep world

I would love to see that, that dude would get an incredible amount of respect.

I know a couple that do, they’ll still get hate because they have money.

Casey Brooks DIY killed the world, him, his sister and dad diy gov tags every year.

Didn't he have people scouting all around all the time looking for that bull giving him daily updates?

This is one of the great ironies of the sheep hunting world. Between preference points and cost what should physically be a young man’s game is an old man’s game outside of AK residents.
