Wyo is handing out a fraction of tags issued a few years ago. Units that used to have left over tags available to nonres now take a number of pts to draw and getting tougher to draw by the year. Winterkill, disease, drought, predators, and other factors have put a big kink in things.
Obviously...
I just bought a 300 win mag and put a 419 sidewinder brake on it. It kicks less than a 6.5 creedmore. I just wear ear protection so don't need a suppressor. The suppressors I've seen are super long and would be a drag hunting in thick brush or in moist areas/snow. If it were me I would just...
I get a smile on my face every time I see a No on 127 sign while driving through Boulder and Larimer Counties!
Thank you to everyone that has spread these signs along the Front Range!
I found this posted on another website. Looks like they are now insulting these wildlife conservation groups. Their true colors are coming out. Do they really care about wildlife management?
I have Tibet in wide and they are a great boot. The only things I don’t like about them are they are pretty stiff for stalking quietly and they are pretty heavy.
I mostly wear them in deep snow when I don’t hike very far.
Here is an interesting video by Ron Spomer about 6.5 Creedmore vs 300 Win Mag. It's a lengthy video but listen to the end and it will give you his recommendation. There are several youtube videos that compare the 6.5's to 30 calibers but keep in mind that many of them are comparing a 140ish...
I would highly recommend a 30 cal over some of the smaller calibers. There seems to be a rave for 6.5 but I really believe it is too small for larger game. I've used a 300 WSM for years and it has been an amazing rifle. Almost every critter I've shot has been a 1 shot kill.
When you see so...
I've used and abused quite a few Sitka over the years. They have held up like iron and worked extremely well. Lately I've switched over to Kuiu. Kuiu seems to be a bit lighter weight with less bulk than Sitka for the same amount of weight.
I agree 100% with msgs post immediately above...
There are some great suggestions on this forum. If you truly want to see how long ice lasts in different coolers take a look at some of the side by side, youtube video comparisons. It will open your eyes to the features of each and how long ice lasts in them.
Here's an example of one of...
The CPW consider mtn goats as second rate citizens here in Colo. There are a number of Colorado areas where both exist. Contrary to what the CPW may think, I’ve spent hours watching them and have never seen any negative interactions. Not saying, it doesn’t happen but they often just avoid...
I thought I would start a new post in response to what is currently going on in Colorado in regard to proposition 127 and mountain lion hunting. Many of you that enjoy watching, filming, and hunting wild sheep may want to pay attention to what's going on in Colorado. It has taken years of...
Those are impressive groups from a factory rifle!
My son and I bought 3 of the s20’s. A 6.5 PRC, 30 06, and 300 win mag. My favorite of all of them may surprise you. It’s the 300 win! I put an Area 419 sidewinder muzzlebreak on it and it kicks less than the PRC. It also shoots super tight...
Please read the following article about California wild sheep and mountain lions. Colorado will likely face the same scenario if this passes! You may want to pass this article along to those that are undecided whether to vote
yes or no!
Below are the last couple paragraphs in this article and...
On average 300 of the 500 lions harvested annually in Colo are males. Mtn lions are polygamous so males can breed more than one female. The average litter size of mtn lions is 2 to 3/year. The estimated lion population in Colorado is 3,800 to 4,400 adults.
Harvesting an average of 300 male...
I definitely can’t afford a guided sheep hunt but that doesn’t mean I haven’t hunted them. I was just making a point that both guided sheep and mtn goat hunts are extremely expensive, which isn’t a surprise.
I’m fortunate to have a next of kin relative in Alaska. Ive been lucky in the draw...
It doesn’t seem like Alaska goats get much respect from Alaska res but that may be changing as dall sheep numbers seem to be dwindling. Most AK res seem more interested in sheep and moose. I’ve seen BC prices starting around $15k and going up to around $28k.
I always thought when I was...
Steve O is right about mtn goats being tough to field judge. In fact the average Joe often has trouble telling Nannie’s from billies. It is obviously an inches thing with goats. Getting relatively close with great optics certainly helps!
A 9” billy is pretty common but a 9 1/2+ billy is...
