.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

First time to add some data to this thread. My young boys shot two small bucks with 223 with 77TMK yesterday. Both were their first bucks and I’m proud of them both. First was 110 yard shot with my 10 year old. Deer dropped on shot, got up and ran. Was found 30 yards away dead. Shot was a...

What the closest face-to-face encounters you've had with animals while hunting?

Thought of another one. Turkey hunting as a kid with my grandfather. We sat on a rock outcropping with leaves on it. Was a cool morning but was warming up. My GF felt something moving under him. He stood up and he was sitting on a rattle snake in the leaves. Luckily he wasn’t bit. Snakes...

Anyone tried the stand 1 77TMK recently. Sounds like people were getting 100fps faster than black hills a couple of years ago. It is in stock right now.

    The 22 creedmoor thread

I used 100gr eld vt all season on coyote. Worked flawless. Running 3400 out of 6.5prc. Every one was a bang flop and I shot a boatload of them.

I find they drop quicker with fragmenting bullet. So less need to track

What the closest face-to-face encounters you've had with animals while hunting?

Same. Had a buck at 12 yards while ground hunting. Watched him for 20 min until he walked off. 5 minutes later a second buck came to same spot. Shortly the first buck circled back and they started fighting basically in my lap. They never knew I was there.

.223, 6mm, and 6.5 failures on big game

Also don’t you think is possible form that the twist rate wasn’t right for that bullet? The ER raptor is a long mofo of a projectile and needs a modern fast twist barrel a 35 whelen might not have. That bullet was possibly tumbling from lack of twist.

Raptors are terrible to tumble with any brush or limb impact. I love raptors but only with clear line of sight.

Scope Leveling; Instruction that ran counter to everything I thought I knew

Isn’t that true for all long range shots? It’s just a math problem. Yes, this adds another variable. But it can be solved for just like all the other multitude of variables. If it puts shooter in a more natural firing position it might be worth the other variable. I relate this to a golf...

He was trolling guys. Was a well done effort. B+

Scope Leveling; Instruction that ran counter to everything I thought I knew

Not disagreeing with any of that. There were people early on that were insinuating the bullet would come out sideways. Thats not the case.

Scope Leveling; Instruction that ran counter to everything I thought I knew

Wind would affect the bullet the same regardless of the roll of the rifle. And your windage changes on scope would do the exact same thing as long as your scope is level to the ground. See this picture. Special forces offset optics all the time. The bullet is still shooting straight and...

Scope Leveling; Instruction that ran counter to everything I thought I knew

That’s not exactly right. Many mount a red dot or second optic on 45 or 90 offset from gun being up right. Doesn’t matter at all. If you laid your gun on its side, and mounted th me scope at 90 degrees, then the bullet would still behave with regards to gravity, not the orientation of the...

    6.5CM 120gr ELD-M vs 6CM 108 ELD-M

He wasn’t really comparing those two though. Question was 108 out of 6 or 120 out of 6.5. For me at least, this seems to get confused a lot. Several different factors get mixed together. The benefits of the 6cm is less recoil, and your best bullet would be a heavy for caliber fragmenting...

    Socks

I wear darn tough, but I have found wearing the thin sock liners under them (ones with spot for each toe) keeps them drier and cooler in warm weather and warmer in cold weather. Makes all the difference. https://a.co/d/dGkfczO

    Tipped Fusion vs Terminal Ascent

I shot the terminal ascent last year and I switched to tipped fusion this year for my elk hunt. TA groups well and dives deep, but has no fragmentation. All the deer I shot with them last year had small entrance and small exits. The tipped fusion gives some violent explosion like an eld-m. The...
