I just finished replacing the barrel in Havak 6.5PRC with a Benchmark Carbon. Being a 700 clone, it was pretty straightforward after the machine work, the only thing I had to do was open the barrel channel in the stock to fit the Sendero carbon barrel.
I did not play last year, but i plan to shoot this year.
I have a training rifle in a caliber I modified off the old .222rem-mag. The gun is nearly identical to my custom 6.5PRC and the DOPE is very close to that of the 6.5CM. I shoot weekly (for work and play) and have been bear hunting...
Hey guys, I didn't want to start a new thread on this topic. But I wondered where you ended up? I'm in the market to replace some older Vortex 15x glass. Looking at Maven, Zeiss, Leupold, and maybe Swaros (but those are tough on a civil servant budget). I'm leaning toward the Maven, can...
I LIKE IT!!! Holy smokes sounds like a fun deer/speed goat cartridge.
As for the .25cal, one of my favorites is a .257WBY with a fast twist barrel for heavies…..Also, fun for deep and antelope.
This answer is going to straddle the fence a little, but here we go....
First off, you need to define your desired accuracy. If you are looking at Minute of Elk, and not, consistent, sub-MOA accuracy a BDC reticle will be fine to 400+/- yards (further the more practice time one puts in). If...
I know this is an older post, but I super appreciate the info. I'm revitalizing a TC Thunderhawk in .54, adding a brake and pic rail for general hunts in Idaho, as well as, I found a factory new 209 nipple and striker kit which is being redesigned to accept a Variflame adapter. This rear peep...
I saw you had a Firehawk. I'm in the process of customizing a TC Thunderhawk in .54cal. Adding a brake and pic rail, and I was able to find a factory (new) 209 kit for it. This ignition is being modified to accept the Variflame adapters. It's almost done and I cant wait to get it dialed in!
I hunt WT in the broken country of West and North Central Idaho. I hunt it similarly to mule deer, as far as the places that I go. The major difference being, WT are highly territorial and stay close to a specific area, so I glass until I find pockets of deer and deer sign and hunt those areas...
What's your load for those bullets? I'm thinking of making the switch for my Idaho legal Optima. Not super impressed with the Powerbelts anymore....also, what bullet size fit your barrel? .500 or .501?

I haven't yet. However, I'm planning a backpack trip into SW Virginia for a muzzleloader hunt in November '24....working out the details now with a buddy who lives back there. It'll be a long trip from N. Idaho. Looking forward to it.
I saw it on Midsouth for $28 for a full pound, still a good deal......but, thanks Uncle Joe for the 100% increase.
