Goulds turkey hunting info isn't hard to find but not much info out there about people taking a youth hunter along with them. Has anyone taken their kid to Mexico to chase a goulds turkey? Or even taken their kid along for a Sonora mule deer hunt, really no difference in travel and logistics...
Hey not sure if you purchased the savage 301 yet but consider looking at the .410 cva scout. 20 inch barrel with an Xtra full choke. The 20 inch barrel makes it handle way better for a kid. My daughter was a few months shy of her 5th birthday when she killed her first bird. A bog death grip is a...
I did, we were there sept 15-20. Had some unfortunate weather and mix that with a new pilot flying out of Anchorage and we lost the first 4 days waiting for the weather to lift. Once out on the mountain the trip was great. I have nothing but good things to say about the fella that guided me. I...
I'm not real concerned with getting back, I'm just looking for a recommendation on an east coast taxidermist. I would prefer to drive and pick the finished mount up vs say have it shipped from Alaska. Shipping cost have seemed to get outrageous lately.
I'm heading out in a few weeks to Alaska on a goat hunt. In currently live in New Hampshire. Has anyone from the New England area brought their goat back to an east coast taxidermist. I would like to have a taxidermist picked out before leaving and just have the cape and skull cap shipped...
I ended up with a mountain equipment snowline a few years ago, I did order a couple less expensive bags and tried them at home before returning them and keeping the mountain equipment. It fit better had better baffles, i liked the verticle baffles to keep the down on your core body area, the...
While the taiga bag looks good weight and price wise it is supposedly rated to the same temperature but contains 10 Oz less down fill. That is a factor to look at. You aren't comparing apples to apples between these two choices.
Great goat and hunt recap, I'm heading out to the Chugach next September and can't wait. Went to kodiak this year and alaska weather and terrain is very humbling
Hopefully you find a partner for next year, I was there the week of Thanksgiving. Such an incredible hunting experience. We did a boat based hunt, we all shot really nice bucks but if I were to do it Alain I would love a hybrid boat trip. Hike in and camp for 1 or two nights then hit a different...
I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a 243 for antelope, 2021 out group killed 7 that week all shooting 6.5s, I would suggest shooting at distance so you are prepared. We shot them between 90 and 460 yards. Once they are hit they don't send to have much will to live. I was surprised at joe easy they die.
Good luck to your group on drawing this year. Antelope is probably my favorite hunt. Only thing i know of that you can all share a truck and still all be successful on a couple day hunt. While a spotting scope isn't necessary it can save you many miles of hiking if you are looking for a trophy...
Great write up about your hunt. Im heading to Cordova in September and this just gets me more fired up for the experience . I went to Alaska for the first time last thanksgiving to Kodiak for a deer hunt and Alaska far exceeded my expectations. Congrats on a beautiful goat.
I am booked to hunt with Lonesome Dove Outfitters for this september. Dennis seems to run a very successful archery goat hunt. I couldn't find one negative review on his outfit. I was looking at Kodiak because of the cost but my buddy was already booked with Dennis so I chose to go with him. Im...
I also had a not so great guided experience in Idaho this year on an elk hunt. I was successful but the experience took away from what the hunt should have truly been and I couldn't in good faith recommend them to anyone. As you look at 2023 I would vet the outfitter and reach out to...
