Northland College in Ashland, WI is a liberal private college and has a lot of natural resources based curriculum. They held a candlelight vigil for a White Pine that had to be cut down on campus. Insanity is right out our back door.
If you have an open field, what about planting a screen instead? lots of food plot companies market egyptian wheat or the like, for quick results and back it up with white spruce and cedars. deer appreciate the cover as a bonus. where in western WI?

where you driving from? East side of lake of the woods is absolutely full of lodges on both LOW and other lakes. LOW is known for its big pike, and has a 40" minimum limit.

Lake of the Clouds is 3.5 hs from my house in NW WI. we plan on doing 4-5 day trip so an extra 3-4 hs isn's a big deal if its worth it ;)
going to do a 4-5 day tour of the UP, Porcupine Mountains, Lake of the Clouds, etc. We want to do some hiking, but are is there other sight seeing recommendations you want to give? We don't have an agenda or schedule yet. so ope to lots of options for neat places and good food.
that is a very different animal altogether, called a scud, that is in the dakota pothole lakes and Devils lake. it is more a crustacean. Trout fisherman can tell you all about scuds, or side-swimmers they are sometimes called.
Fairy shrimp are very seasonal, and slow, and don't stand much...
kinda, sea monkeys are brine shrimp and found in the Great Salt Lake and dead sea, etc.
these are freshwater guys, We have them in northern wi, in ponds and puddles where they don't get preyed upon by fish and ducks.

I went from a V8 RAM to this, and I haven't noticed a huge difference in power, it pulled the boat just fine as far as getting up to speed in traffic, etc. I have not had the truck i the mountains yet.

I am about 3 months into a '22 1500 with that motor.
23 ish mpg unloaded. I pulled a 17' lund (about 2,000 lbs) out to ND this summer, got 16-17 mpg into the wind, and 19ish without fighting the wind
If you can drive to camp, buddy of mine brought his own invertor generator and extension cords, you could hardly hear it at night, a couple gallons of gas lasted for 10 days.
