My take: buy the best SFP scope you can afford with a reticle that is easy to see against a cluttered background. You only need 10x max or
Value Buy: Meopta Optika5 in 2-10. Built like a tank.
Splurge Buy: Nightforce SHV 3-10. If I ever need a 3-10, I will buy one of these.
I bought a late 1990Remington M700 Stainless with the dbm feature. I never got to take a deer with it. Shortly after I bought it, I moved to CT which is essentially slug only. Like a moron, I sold it.
My first deer rifle is a Savage High Country in 6.5 CM. I still have it.
My current deer...
Budget Accuracy. For their price, Savage rifles are hard to beat. Both of my Savage rifles are extremely accurate.
I am going on a deer hunt this weekend. My primary rifle will be a semi-custom rifle I built around an Origin Action.

No. I just thought he jumped the gun on his shot rather than wait for a better angle. I would call it a C level decision.
The 2nd shot was what really got my attention.
I think both these shots were stupid.
My Opinion:
He never gave either buck time to give him a full broadside shot.
The shot from the 22 CM was basically in the ass. A good hunter would have taken their time.
A 6 CM or 243 barrel (takeoff or prefit) is the way to go. The only reason to avoid the take off barrel, they are almost always not threaded.
Suppressors are the future. I have a very light X Bolt Mountain Pro in 6.8W. The recoil without a brake is substantial. With my Dead Air Nomad, it...
I had a problem with the magnification ring on a CT series.. They sad to destroy it and they would send a replacement.
I had a hard time destroying the CT and ended up having to take a dremel to the lenses. Built like a tank.
I have two Origin LA's. The 270 has a BDL floor plate and the 280AI has a M5 setup.
They both feed reliably. The problem I have with the BLD is getting the magazine loaded. The design of the Origin ejection port makes it hard to easily load from the top.
I don't know about the Hawkins...
I landed on snakeyes. Back to the drawing board. With my hunt set for two weeks, I am going a different route this season.
On the bright side, I sourced a box of 77g versions for next year.
Good luck. I bought the same rifle for two purposes.
- Cheap practice for me
- Cheap practice for the kids. They will either use the Tikka or a suppressed 6ARC Savage. I am leaning towards the Tikka because it is so light and handy.
