Robby! My "vampires" big buck language is rubbing off, lol. So true, glass into the sun! Glassing is still my least favorite, lol. Dude, scouting has been tough with the crazy weather, but the horses have been kicking butt riding through the nasties. No shooter spotted yet, but some potentials...
Hey Robby, I really enjoyed your discussion about tracking. I find it to be the coolest game of cat and mouse with big bucks. I find in my area that tracking and still hunting work best, but then again I'm only targeting giant bucks (I've never seen a 180"+ buck through glass, only face to face)...
That is a loaded question with so many possibilities. In my experience with most people scoring antler size is they always over score. This is the typical situation you see in the archery community, they take a 140-150" buck and think it's 180-200" in velvet or something. Most people will never...
Get a bear tag if you can. Black bears in the fall are concerned about berries or acorns or whatever in your area, they will eat elk/deer calves in the spring but if they have habituated a specific area it might push animals out especially during the elk rut. Bigger bucks won't put up with bears...
Just know that there are big bucks in most OTC units if you put the work in and you just don't need to waste your life on draw tags. Read @robby denning first book as well as David Long and Mike Duplan's books. Just hunt every year and learn mule deer habits and you will be successful. CO and...
Typical ear to ear length is 23". He looks like a standard 140" buck but he's not done growing bone yet this season. Most of your archery guys over estimate size, especially with velvet on. When you see a 180" mule deer with no fuzz, you will know it.
Thanks for this Robby!
PSA: We have to convince ALL HUNTERS that draw tags are terrible. If you love to hunt every year like I do, you would never want any draw tags, that's like putting a gun to our heads. There are quality animals in most units. I see big bucks every season because I have the...
I run a Slik Sprint 150 tripod. It's light weight, packable and has been decent over the years. They make a carbon fiber if you want a lighter version for more money. I use it to glass with my binos and a spotter.
Settle down man you're getting into a hypocritical conservative workup. Who cares what type or color of people get tags, state's cap non residents to a quota and everyone should have an opportunity. The world isn't white man it's just a different shade of brown.
Fitness is discipline. I have a goal to hunt the mountains well into my 80's so I live a lifestyle that lets me accomplish that. I won't tell you what I do to achieve it because there are too many haters on this forum but it's all discipline for what you put into your body and how much exercise...
I've used them before but I don't in grizzly country. We usually get the curious grizzly in the early am that rolls through camp and I don't think I want to be hanging in a tree. I would just sleep with the bag open, the nights still can get chilly in September and if your high enough snow is a...
