    Neck shot ethics

This sums it up for me as well. Considering I'm usually hunting in the woods and a "long" shot would be 50 yards or so, it's more if the deer gives me a good, stationary shot than anything else. Heck, I usually have a nice steady rest on the rail of the stand.

SWFA website updated; More to come in 2024

I know someone who's been waiting a LOOOOOONG time for a warranty replacement scope. He'll never buy anything from them again. I'd buy a 6x mil if it was updated with an illuminated reticle though.

    Affordable & Lightweight Riflescope Options

They're capped, not target turrets, but the adjustments were accurate and repeatable, which is a lot more than most "inexpensive" scopes......

    Affordable & Lightweight Riflescope Options

Yeah, the 1.75-5x pleasantly surprised me when I threw it on. It was easy to get behind, and most of all, the adjustments actually were accurate and repeatable. It also held zero despite getting dragged up in trees and knocked over a few times. Sightron 1.75-5x

    Affordable & Lightweight Riflescope Options

I put a 1.75-5x Sightron from CameralandNY on my 45/70 single shot this year. Tracked great, held up to 40* rain, I'd buy another. Under $200 on sale right now

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I laughed so hard when I saw this.

    Living with deer

I had one run into my garage once. Other than that, I only bring them inside to warm them up on the grill.......

    Neck shot ethics

I guess I "get it" but again, either you're taking a shot you know you can make or you're playing the "pull and pray" game on a live animal. There's not much similarity to me shooting a buck that is standing stationary giving me a good angle with my 45/70 at 20-25 yards and lobbing one in at...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I had several Poverty Pony lowers in the safe, so I just threaded the rear takedown detent hole on one and am using that. I don't have anything against the polymer lowers, just had heard about wait times etc, and already had one to use, so I'll eat a few ounces there. This build is mainly...

    Lightweight QD Suppressor Mount

Properly torqued, I've never had an issue with my Griffin taper mounts coming loose. Now that I have them on everything and never switch anything around, I probably should rockset them.

Single Shot Mountain Rifle Build: CVA Scout

I have a CVA 45/70 rifle, 44mag rifle and 44 mag pistol. I really like them, but they're not exactly lightweight. I also have a T/C Contender with an SSK 30-30 barrel, and the trigger is actually better on the CVA's than the contender.

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

My adapter to us my Gemtech Tracker on my ULUL build rifle arrives today, so I will literally have everything sitting on my shop bench other than the Solo 300 upper. My buddy was just laughing at the weight of the portless Shaw barrel the other night. I really need some patience. It's windy...

    Neck shot ethics

Upon further reflection I've come to the conclusion that the ethics of a neck shot are the same as any other shot on live game. Either you have practiced and know you can make the shot with the equipment in your hands, or you're playing "pull and pray" on a live animal. Whether that's a shot...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I'm old. I used to think red dots or optics on rifles were unnecessary. We qualified to 500 with irons. We didn't need any optic or dot. Then I tried an Aimpoint. I was wrong. They're faster and just plain better in every way. Anyhow I learned that conventional wisdom is often anything but.

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

The whole "stop liking what I don't like" stuff never fails to amuse me. It's pretty hard to argue that you can't effectively kill with a .223/5.56. If you don't like it, or feel comfortable doing it, don't. And I say that as someone who shot his buck this year with a 45/70......... ;)

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I'm just here to whine about the pile of parts (everything but the Solo 300 action) sitting on my workbench taunting me while we processed a few deer last night in my shop. It's not like I NEED it anytime soon, but having everything else is making me squirrely.
