Solo hunting is great! I’ll echo what has been said already. You can learn a lot from researching it and hunting with others but doing it solo puts it all together and you are forced to make your own decisions and figure things out for yourself you will become so much more proficient.

I’d agree with the earlier statement of good boots and fitness and add good gaiters! Decent rain gear is a good idea as well. I’ve seen a bit of everything idaho has to offer while in the frank in fall. Sitka dew point has held up fine for me.

I’ve run vortex for a long time with no issues. Taken them deep into the backcountry strapped to a pack and on horseback with no trouble with their razor scope and shot deer and elk after beating them around and never had to rezero. It feels like I must be an outlier with all the negatives in...
I’ve run several different boots and shoes with them I always carry an extra lace just in case. I had some wading boots from Simms and had to replace them at least once every year or so. Just got in the habit of leaving an extra boa set up in my drift boat and one in my truck. If I had them on a...
I love the look of a bull or Buck, skin on, on an old pack board like the earlier picture. Those turn out great and don’t take near the space of a shoulder mount. I am a big fan of euro and it would have to be something pretty spectacular to do a full shoulder on an elk.

Pairing it with a Nemo sonic 0° bag. Not overly concerned with weight within reason just wondering which of the three wins out based on your experiences.

I haven’t been able to scout the area in my unit for elk that opens in September because of a fire and closed roads. Starting to get pretty bummed but I guess it’s a good opportunity to branch out.

Good luck with that moose hunt! That’s a good area with a solid population. Had a friend draw that unit a couple years ago and we had a great hunt in there.

That earlier hunt the bulls should still be in or around close to the cows. That’s a solid draw good luck and I hope you find a good one. I had a friend that drew the later hunt two years ago and shot a really nice bull in there

Definitely! Got information from a biologist for a moose hunt and he put us on two really great bulls ended up shooting one of them. He also mentioned somewhere in the unit there was a 50+ inch bull. Ran into it on the way out two hours after we tagged out.

I have the Nemo sonic 0° bag and have used it down to 10° comfortably with an insulated klymit static v. I am a side sleeper and it has been comfortable for me. I’m about 510 185 and the regular fits perfect.
