    Mechanical Broadheads

At 40 pounds don't do it. No need for a mechanical and penetration will be terrible. Just find a good cut on contact head and don't look back. Lots of good options from high priced to low priced. For the higher end I reccomend Day Six, mid range Cutthroat or VPA, cheaper end Stingers or...

Learning to bow hunt with compound vs. traditional archery

I'll say this. Plenty of people have killed plenty of animals in alskasa with trad bows. Hell, i killed a blacktail there myself Getting close is the challenge. So if it's something that interests you, go for it. Just know that where most weapons stalks end, yours is just beginning. With...

Learning to bow hunt with compound vs. traditional archery

What type of hunting? Back east or out west? How much effort had you put into compound hunting with no success yet?

    Trad kill thread 2024

Thanks! He is a great buck! I did not call him in, I bedded him and five other bucks at high elevation, and then stalked in on him. I figured, they are basically a mule deer, and I live for spot and stalk mulies, so I used that technique. The other guys I was with took more of a still...

Black Bear - Traditional Bow Recurve Set-up

Should be fine. I don't know much about bears, but I know elk are bigger and my wife had killed several with 46 pounds, a 26" draw and a lighter arrow.

    Arrow sizes

I shoot the Day Six arrows. They are skinnier than the Easton axis. Not sure on the diameter, but small. A thinner shaft can be easier to tune in my experience, but not required. I like the Day Six because they have the thickest walls of any arrow I've seen and are very durable. As trad...

How many strings do you go through each year?

A year or so and then I'll build a new one. I usually build the new one before the last is totally dead and then keep the old one for a back up. I've only broken two strings in all my years shooting. One broke at a the limb tip and one failed under the serving. Both we obviously worn out when...

Stick on elevated rest vs shooting off the shelf

I've done both. Both work. Tuning is easier in elevated rest. Can shoot vanes on elevates. But I shoot shelf these days for simplicity.
