I generally use my shelf to carry my glassing pad. I cut a full size pad in half so I needed more room. For hauling out meat, I’ve always thrown it in the pack. I wash my pack after the season anyway so whether it’s bloody or not doesn’t matter to me.
I am a budget clothing dude as well. The oak brush where I live will tear shit up so I tend to buy used clothing all the time. I’m pretty lucky that I have an outdoor consignment store in town. I get everything from there.
Technically I didn’t find it, but it was placed on my windshield. I saw it when I returned to my vehicle during the third rifle season.
Its a kuiu glove, so if you or someone you know lost one in SW Colorado, during the third rifle season, hit me up to get it back.
I had to go look and didn’t even realize it had a meat shelf. It’s tucked up under a sleeve between the pack and the shoulder straps.
Thanks for the info.
I have both and use them for entirely different applications. The Gravelly 18 doesn’t have a meat shelf and seems to be better suited as an extra pack “just in case” rather being a stand alone pack for anything other than running errands around town. I prefer to use my Mule for a day pack...
I hunt within 30 minutes of the house, elk, deer, bear, lion, grouse, turkeys. A little longer and I can see moose, sheep and goats as well as antelope.
I hunt coyotes all year as well as prairie dogs.
I always have a saw in my rig as well, but they are handsaws. One is a 14” now saw and the other is a 3’ single man crossfit saw with detachable handle. I also keep a couple of wedges and files with it.
