I haven't taken a rifle into Canada since 2017, but it was pretty simple.
There was a good website with all the rules, and even the forms to fill out ahead of time. I did that, then declared the rifle with U.S. Customs before leaving the U.S. side. The Canadians didn't even want to see the...
This one was successful! I've noticed that often they'll eat the fish head first, then take the fish back to the nest to share, or devour it themselves elsewhere. Very active along the river with all the young osprey flying now.
Dog and I walked this morning, we often go to a floating pier on the Columbia River. Today a juvenile osprey that's only been flying for a couple of weeks, was hanging out on the handrail, checking the river below for fish! It was only about 30 yards from the nest and this osprey has little fear...
Mostly my son uses it now, but I've still got this 6mm Rem 700 BDL that I got new in 1974. It's taken rockchucks, coyotes, whitetail and mule deer over the years. Most of the deer success over the past 20 years or so was with the handloaded 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. At 3100+ fps via...
I hunt alone often. Am 68 now and haven't backpacked in years, but I take the Jeep either from home, or set up a camp, and hunt.
Deer and antelope are a lot easier than elk to pack out.
One of my most satisfying hunts was just a few years ago when I headed out from home well before sunrise on...
And quite a few more. Sorry, nothing real new & snappy, just the 25-06 Rem 700 6x Leupold and either 100 gr Barnes, 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, or the 115 gr Berger VLD. Ranges out to a bit over 400 yards. All but one muley were one-shot kills. I do love the soft kicking, accurate, lethal 25-06...
25-06 with 115 gr Berger VLD (the thin-jacket version) is... Decisive. It dropped right where it had been standing. Off-side hide? Pretty much blown wide open. Too ugly for a photo.
They really are, and quite a predator! I've even watched one stalking a pair of small ducks... Photographed this one from my fishing kayak on the Columbia River, Washington.
Sure. I went with Cameron Outfitters. They're based in Darby Montana and have guiding rights to a huge chunk of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. They've got drive-to camps as well as their backcountry wilderness camps.

I just enjoyed a fun and interesting spring bear hunt in Idaho - the state makes it easy and inexpensive for a non-resident to get a license and tag, or even two bear tags in some areas. They're trying to reduce the number of predators so perhaps help the elk and deer populations.
This time I...
