Friends who know my obsession with firearms often ask my opinion on the subject and I’ve always believed a cartridge like 6.5 Grendel in a suppressed AR platform is the perfect solution. Like the OP stated, low recoil is vital as is remedied with a “light” caliber such a suppressed 6.5...
As a proud owner of a pretty decent custom .204 and enjoyed seeing what the caliber can do… it might not be dead, but it’s reaching .300 Weatherby Mag status. With the increasing popularity of suppressors and thus the preference for shortened barrels (neutering its speeds), not to mention...
I feel like I read somewhere that certain states don’t allow game meat to be used for pets. I’ve always been interested in doing this for my dog. Every time I give my dog leftover tbones her teeth are cleaner. It just seems right that canids shouldn’t be eating highly processed foods, similar to...
I like more cartridge for deer/big game rather than something like a .223 with a light bullet, but I love ar platforms. I’ve gone the direction of 6.5 Grendel suppressed with a 1-8.5 with illuminated reticle. I may go 16” ruger sfar in .308 in the near future, like I said earlier in preferring...
I’ve picked my earliest shed up on January 1st (central MN) and I’ve seen antlers on hard horned deer into mid April (big central Iowa 10, with 4 other shed out bucks!).
This is a great thread. In my limited experience of gun dog ownership and training (2 GSPs and 5 English setters), I’ve seen and resolved similar problems. From my experiences and reading the thread I want to emphasize a few of my opinions:
1- immediate correction with a collar is better than...
I love hunting with AR’s. I’ve hunted Iowa, MN, and Wyoming with 6.5 Grendel and 350 Legend. I’ve taken 2 white tails and a pronghorn. Theyre ultra convenient to walk around with and perfect for hunting. I think they’re only going to keep becoming more popular as Fudd mentality dies out after...
Our hunting group in Iowa had extremely bad experiences with some 180gr browning rounds. The next year we all used mixed rounds and had differing success with several unrecovered deer and little amounts of blood. My conclusions were that 350 legend is a max 175 yard gun, lighter is best, and it...
Though somewhat limited to Midwestern coyote hunting, regardless of caliber, I’ve never had a broadside coyote that didn’t exit….
As long as we’re talking reasonable varmint calibers.
I tried a 204 in an ar platform and ran into too many feeding problems. It also loses too much velocity for the cartridge over the simplicity and speed of a standard 223 at 16 or so inches.
MJspeers nailed it. Also the gun was specifically built for mostly prairie dogs and at the time I could get super cheap varmint bullet blems from midway compared to .223 varmint bullet. In shorter barrel lengths .204 is not a good option like I did. In hindsight .223 in 18.5” is the better option.
It’s thread worthy because liberty has no obligation to provide a master code or key. Apple did the same thing with a shooting years ago but didn’t give access to a phone owned by the suspect. For gun owners it is worth knowing which companies respect your rights and doesn’t fold to alphabet...
