Those bars are a better idea than freeze-dried. Typical freeze-dried dinner is 600 calories or so. They're often either bland or way over-spiced.

I was hunting solo two years ago and shot one .29 miles from my truck at about 10 am. It took me six trips, the last one finished at about 6 pm or so. It was just getting dark and it was the end of rifle season the first weekend of November, so I guess I could look up the exact time of sunset...
In WA I'd say between 3000 and 5000 in about the 2nd week of August when the berries are ripe. September? A blackberry patch along a forest road, catch one crossing into an orchard, blind luck.
It should be legal at least in parts of the country where it is a result of the section and township grid that has blocks of public land scattered about. All public land should have reasonable access both to any particular block but also between contiguous blocks including corner-touching...

WA points are fairly cheap, in the $6-11 range including for out-of-staters. I think people get in over their heads with trying to stay current in points in multiple states. Also, a key difference with WA is that you don't lose points if you miss a year or even any number of years. Other...
I've only bothered with out-of-state points twice (MT and WY). Just didn't seem worth the yearly cost to maintain.
I think my state (WA) should convert perhaps 10 - 20% of the point system draws to raffles which can be entered using your accumulated points, for equivalent hunt types. The...
My thought on these much increased lumen headlamps is that I'd be too tempted to keep it on the highest power and waste battery life. Can I stay on a trail with, I don't know, 30 lumens? -- sure, but 80 is a lot better, maybe I'd get in the habit of staying at 250 or 400 or whatever.
