    Iowa non-resident hunting experiences

Just curious how the Iowa NR guys did last season? It was one of the toughest seasons I can remember. The harvest was EXTREMELY late. There were as many big bucks around either, at least in my neck of the woods. Talked to many residents who had the same issue. I know EHD took a toll on some...

Where would you move to out west if you could?

NM. Warmer and not as much snow! Buy a ranch in a good unit and get landowner tags ;)

    Wyoming General Points for 2020?

Yeah, I got into the elk game way to late in life. Wish I had been building points. I only have 2 points this year. I would've loved to go but odds didn't look good. I just hope I can draw the general tag with 3 points next year.

    Trump waterways/wetlands roll back

Noone said to lighten up if a thread goes downhill, I was referring to Justin's attitude towards someone who is proving feedback. I found his comment to be crass. The guy wasn't arguing or being disrespectful. But the fact that 2 of you have replied now shows how over sensitive you guys are...

    Wyoming General Points for 2020?

Every year that there is a big jump in tag costs or regulation changes, people think draw odds will get better. Every single time that I have personally kept track, it gets harder to draw. Why? Everyone thinks their odds will be better so they put in. I wouldn't be surprised if it took 3 points...

    Trump waterways/wetlands roll back

Wow, I think you just proved his point. I don't think what he said was over the line. Lighten up...

    Iowa non-resident hunting experiences

You have picked the best days of the year in my opinion. I rather hunt the last 3 days of October than any days during the middle of November. The 14th-17th is the peak of breeding every year. If you don't have a hot doe near you, it makes for some long boring days watching squirrels.

    Iowa non-resident hunting experiences

You are on the right track. The White Breast watershed produces giants every year. Each year will vary, even on private ground. There is no 'silver bullet'. Just have to get out there and hunt. I know that sounds like generic advice, but when it comes to whitetails it is very true. They are all...

    Iowa non-resident hunting experiences

The guys who say there isn't much public ground in Iowa crack me up. There is plenty of it. Does it get pounded during shotgun season? Hell yes. But if you are talking archery, you are not going to have much of an issue with pressure. There are good places in both Units 4 and 5. The public in...

Finally found one to chase this year

Very cool buck Travis! He is a stud for sure. His mass in unreal. I often wonder how many ghost deer I hunt. The ones who show up during the summer but then disappear right before the season starts. When I am sitting in a treestand days on end after a specific deer I often think they are...

Member Moving to Montana hunting Montana & Wyoming

If you click on the member name, you can see the last time someone was logged into the site. Unfortunately, both guys haven't been seen in a while. I wish some guys would come back and give updates. I'm just curious how things turn out!

Finally found one to chase this year

You would be surprised. I've had some old mature bucks be finished growing by the second or third week of July. On the flip side I've had some that didn't look like much after the second week of July put on a ton of growth. I usually just look at the bulbs at the end of the tines and color of...

    Trail Cam Locks: Worth it?

I have Browning Strike Force cams and use python locks. I figure a camera is just too easy to steal and hike out. The only cameras I've had stolen are ones that are not locked. One time I had a camera that was locked and they tried to twist it off the tree. Had it not been for the lock, it was...

    Montana Unit 212

@High Wild Free Your advice on elk sounds much like my own when talking to folks about chasing big whitetails. No big deer is a secrete anymore (trail cams are everywhere) and everywhere you go in Iowa has pressure. Just have to use the pressure to your advantage and put in your time. Thanks...

    Montana Unit 212

The reason I started looking into 212 was it seemed to have ok elk numbers, but not as many people hunting it. Last year when I hunted Idaho there were so many people around. I was in shock how many camps there were going up the mountain and how many people I ran into in the woods (many 2-3...

    Montana Unit 212

I was originally planning on showing up at the beginning of the season but my dates are flexible. Was planning on a 2 week stay. If I am getting into elk I could extend the trip some.

    Montana Unit 212

@High Wild Free & @Phatfisher : I have identified a few units in regions 4/5 (I think). Found one unit in the Crazy Mountains and a few in the Little Belt Mountains. The Crazy Mountains look to be mostly private ground but I had thought about trying to catch them going back and forth between...

    Montana Unit 212

Yeah, I planned to head to the west side of the unit. Honestly, I rather hunt the side with less animals if that means less hunters around. It sounds like I would need to bring an ATV...I'd hate to take my truck on some shady stuff. I really appreciate everyone chiming in. It has confirmed what...
