Black Ovis UPing their Game with Selection of Backpacks!

Their freight price for overseas customers (NZ in my case) is better than direct from some manufacturers'. I have just made a useful saving through cheaper freight and a 10% discount on an Initial Accent IA3K pack. Can't comment on their service because I only did this today.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Its great. That original 1:9 twist barrel wore out and is now replaced by a stainless fluted 1:8.The trigger sear wore down and out of adjustment so it now sports a Timney. Both very good improvements but the original rifle was very accurate and nice to use. I like it a lot. I neck shot this at...

Hunting Big Game with Man’s Best Friend

This is Tilly. German Wire Haired Pointer. Died last year at 12. She and I shot 258 deer together during her life time. She indicated them while at heel, and found them after the shot. A wonderful hunting dog and companion. Bella is the Lab in the second pic. 14 months old and shaping up to be...

Yes, a dog can be useful. My Lab finds them quick smart. It's ensuring when there is no blood trail with the .223. This one at a couple of hundred yards. Dropped pretty much on the spot. 77TMK.

You dont have to be a slave to Tikka. There are lots of good .223's out there although slightly limited if you want a 1:8 twist (which you will need for the 75-80 grn class of projectiles). Fit and feel is important and the best might not be a Tikka.

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Post #1 asked for experience with "similar bullets" to the 77TMK. Ive tried a variety and the TMK is at the top of the heap but hard to get and expensive. One line of bullets that have performed very well for me are custom made using Berger jackets. 74 and 80 grn. The secret is the composition...

    New Zealand Safaris experiences???

If you come here, get the real hunting experience. Which isn't buzzing around in a helicopter and then being dropped off near a good bull Tahr or Red stag to kill it. Or shooting an animal behind a fence. Hunt private land by all means and use a helicopter for access, but use your legs and do...

    Kifaru Minikeg: Where to purchase

My wife will be in the US all of April (from NZ). I want her to bring me back a Minikeg but Kifaru list them as being unavailable. Are there retailers (apart from Kifaru) who sell them? Can't find anything on the internet. Thanks

They are USD59/100 here. $95/100 in our money. 80grn ELDM are a lot cheaper here (NZD65/100)

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

Here are 3 different deer shot with the 77TMK last night with different points of impact and reactions. 1) This was 130 yards. Ran about 100 yards but had busted shoulder and was dead on its feet. This was a large Red deer hind. There was a large hole through the ribs under the shoulder - pics...

.223 for bear, deer, elk and moose.

I needed to redeem myself because I rushed that first shot. I wanted to get one before they went over the fence and likely ran out into the crop paddock. The wind was too strong for an any longer shot.

The 77TMK don't work if you don't hit 'em, but are devastating when you do. Watch to the end where I redeem my self. Centre of shoulder hit. 254 yards.

In general a narrower wound channel with Barnes. I have experience with the 55 grn tipped and they like to meet some firm resistance to really perform. Ive killed maybe 25 deer with the 60grn Hammer Hunters at 3,150 fps (have posted pics on here) and they kill ok under the same conditions as...
