    Vortex rangefinder question?

I purchased a Vortex rangefinder a couple days ago, and I'm not sure if it's working correctly or not. Here's what's happening. The view displays red crosshairs. I put the crosshairs on the target and push the button. The crosshairs disappear after pushing the button, and about 1 second...

Appytrails mark 5 tent rookie review

After going back and forth between this and the MountainSmith shelter, I finally decided on the Appy Trails due to its larger size. I set the tent up yesterday, and now I'm not sure I made the right choice. The interior space in the foot area is very small. The peak in this area is very low...

Stay Beef Up on the Oregon Packworks WS packs

I think a mod like this could be used to improve a "backpacking" style pack. I'v used quite a few lightweight, dual stay packs that carried 40 to 50 lbs nicely, but the stays would fold under any weight beyond that. I may just have to give it a try.

NEW Nevada DIY Hunt Research Center

Does anyone know if you can apply for the 2nd Chance Draw if you don't get in for the main draw?

Sierra designs cal 13 dri down sleeping bag

Whether the dri down works as advertised or not, the specs on that bag look good. Just a little too rich for my blood, though, so I ordered the Zissou 12. I origianally ordered the Zissou 23, but decided I'd rather error on the side of being too warm than too cool. I weighed the 23 before...

crocs or lightweight trail runners for camp shoes when backpacking in?

If I'm packing in extra shoes, I want to be able to wear them for something more than just walking around camp. I'm currently experimenting with a pair of Brooks Pure Drift shoes. They weight 6.2 oz per shoe according to my scale, and I think I'll be able to use them to actually hunt in. They...

    Nimrod Packs?

I've owned some Nimrod gear for about 5 years. I purchased the Bugle Bag and pack frame, along with a pouch for my rangefinder. Everything is very well made. I have had zero failures. The bugle bag has been on my back for the last five years through some of the nastiest brush you can...

Appytrails mark 5 tent rookie review

I've been planning on purchasing this tent for a while, just haven't pulled the trigger. I think the Sea to Summit Nano mosquito net at 2.9 oz and a piece of tyvek, along with the use of trekking poles, would make this a nice light setup.

    max distance with 5 pins

I have a 5 pin slider by BlackGold. The pins are set at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and then the 60 becomes the slider for longer distances. It's a great set up.

    Ruby's Nevada

That makes sense. Do you know if all the leftover tags were purchased last year?

    Ruby's Nevada

I'm planning on the hunt as well. I'm still confused about the draw odds, though. Accordng to the website, in 2012 there were 88 successful nonresidents and 68 unsuccessful. How could there be leftover tags for nonresidents if 68 didn't even draw. Am I reading the infor correctly?

What to look for in trekking poles

I just purchased a set of lever-lock aluminum poles from Walmart, ya Walmart, for about $30. There were some decent reviews for them on a few different backpacking websites. I've never used poles, so I figured I'd give them a try.

    Wyoming help

After doing more research, I see that different regions have different openning days, like Region H on Sept. 15th and region K on Oct. 1. I can't find where it says how long each hunt is open, though. Are they all open the same number of days or are some regions open longer than others? I...

    Ruby's Nevada

Anyone know when Nevada will have the draw data from 2012. I imagine with the inrease in tags, it might look a little different than previous years.

    Wyoming help

If I miss a year of applying, I lose all my points? I just looked briefly at their website, and couldn't find where it said anything about this. If wer're back to zero, I guess I have other states to consider.

    Wyoming help

When I first looked into G I was told that I could pretty much find any type of terrain I wanted to hunt, from steep and nasty, to areas where you could just road hunt. This sounded about perfect, as we want to be able to hunt hard, but also just enjoy camp around the truck. I have region K...

    Wyoming help

I've been wanting to take my dad and brother on an out-of-state deer hunt. I did some research a few years back and decided on Wyoming. At the time I was looking at Region G. I purchased a point for each of us in the summer of 11, but got busy last year and didn't do anything. I was just...
