realistic velocities for .223 88 eld?

Hornady has data for 5.56, 20” barrel. I’d figure 2725 ish for max with varget.

How to get started in Reloading?

press, powder measure, scale, priming tool (or can use press), FL sizing die and seating die, case lube, dial or electronic calipers, and components. Steel wool works fine for cleaning brass in lieu of a tumbler. a trimmer and chamfer tool may be needed unless you are okay with chucking brass...

Tripod for Shooting 300 Yards and Under?

I can’t think of any situation where I’d prefer a hog saddle/similar clamp to shooting off a bag. I would just shoot off a bag on the tripod. I’d look at Leofoto for a cheaper tripod over any you listed - the LS-323c isn’t horrible.

    Best budget coolers

Coleman extreme pre-cooled keep ice longer than a rotomolded with no pre-cooling. Bonus is it weighs about as much full as a rotomolded does empty. Two 70 qt coolers full of meat are easier to lift than a single 150qt. Yeti/etc have some advantages but the cheaper coolers do too.

    223 69g TMK: best powder

shortcut would be to just pick a middle of the road charge weight, back 20-30 thou off the lands and shoot 10 shot group with each powder, record velocity. Pick the winner, and adjust charge weight to get the velocity you want to shoot at and load. IMO, The method you outlined uses 3x the...

Jet sled for fishing nw rivers

keep you eyes peeled and be patient, I’ve seen freedrifters pop up on Craigslist for less than 30k used, and older ones a lot less. I wouldn’t be looking at less than 18’ personally. They don’t float as balanced/level or as high and likely won’t get on step as fast as the longer boats. And...

Jet sled for fishing nw rivers

I’ve been running an 18’ alumaweld freedrifter (115/80 Yamaha 4stroke) for 9 years and it’s been great, I’d buy it again. Or a 20’, but 18 fits my driveway. I can fish 5 reasonably well trolling lakes/ Columbia, or 3 in skinny rivers (less weight, better performance, more room) The difference...

If you had to start over....

I don’t see the appeal of the turret press, but I’ve been running Hornady lock and load die bushings on my rockchucker for ~15 years. Die changes are seconds. Otherwise, why wouldn’t you just go Dillon 550?

Cheap scope that tracks correctly for 22lr

SWFA 10x w/side parallax is pretty dang good on a 22lr. Downside is 5mil/rev, with a 50 yard zero you are on the 3rd rev past about 250 yards. Tracks perfect though, and seriously impressive erector travel.

    Need a new powder dispenser

The rcbs thrower that that comes with the rockchucker kit is money, after you add the micrometer dial and baffle - for ball and super short powders. Just write down the number and never have to check with a scale. For extruded, lee perfect with Titan baffle is one of the few cases where the...

    Throwing charges, weight variance

Unless your loading technique is extremely dialed in, you likely won’t see any meaningful difference in Velocity SD’s with +\- 1/10 gr vs weighed charges. Assuming a significant enough sample size to get reasonably accurate SD’s.

If you had to start over....

RCBS kit. Add a case kicker and a second powder thrower (lee perfect for stick powder, rcbs for ball powder). The Hornady auto thrower, or any of the auto dispensers are slow as hell compared to just dumping powder into the case direct from the powder measure.

    Would you buy this scope?

Probably- im not a penny pincher but it depends on price and what’s available at the time. Assuming SWFA releases their updated scopes by the time this would be completed and released to market, and assuming the 3-9 is still half the price of the proposed new RS scope it’s going a hard sell...

    6ARC Suppressor

I was suprised at how quiet my UL7 is on my AR 6 arc. Turning the gas down via adj gas block with a classic higher backpressure can is pretty effective. I think the tests that show the flow thru cans as being great are ideal if you have a rifle that needs to function unsuppessed. But a...

    Seekins precision element groups?

I’ve never had a complaint about accuracy, mine hammers. My complaint is it took them 5 months to get back to me about a magazine feeding issue. Good to hear others rave about their customer service, not sure how I got unlucky.

Running an Arca Rail on Your Rifle

I’ve been using arca rails on for tripod shooting for ~ 5 years now. Started off with short Henderson rails now I have full length under the forend. My rifles are balanced front heavy/ well in front of the recoil lug so if you carry one handed there’s a rail there. Doesn’t bother me in the...

    suppressors and still hunting

1 - totally subjective. Most folks seem to like a hunting rifle that balances between the hands or under the magazine, other prefer weight forward (think longer shotgun barrel) for offhand shooting. 2 - 16” min practically speaking, unless you want another tax stamp and are okay with NFA...
