You'll see dudes that literally just drive back and forth down the same roads hoping to get a shot at something. Some get out of the truck to shoot, some think truck mirrors are the best...
We cut the tips off 556 FMJs with dykes and ring steel out to 500yds. If nasty, crooked cut bullets can get consistent hits, I don't see the need to worry about the slight differences in lead tipped bullets.
An extra 2lbs isn't a deal breaker for me in a pack as long as it has the features I want and fits me. That being said if theirs two pack that have the features I want and fit right... I'm most likely gonna take the lighter of the two.
I have a small pack (xing) for hunting from a truck camp or day trips but it certainly isn't a replacement for the EMRII. Anything other than day trips or truck I'd rather take a big pack and compress it down. I don't recall ever thinking my pack is too big but more than once, I've wished for...
I'd assume their trend towards streamlined packs is to appease the ultralight, every ounce counts crowd.
