Thanks EdP. I'm lubing my felt wads by rubbing bore butter into them.
So far I've shot 8 different bullets from 4 different manufacturers at 80, 90, 100, and 110gr charges. The no excuses 420gr with 90gr charge seem the best, but only after the fouling shots as described above. My level of...
Thanks for the tip. I am currently lubing the lead conical with bore butter, and putting a bore butter impregnated felt wad between powder and bullet. Is there a better way of getting a seal?
NPHunting, thanks for the reply. To be more specific, the clean barrel shot at a 100 yard target is about 9 inches high and 12 inches right of my groups from a fouled barrel. Shots 2, and 3 are erratic and then it seems to settle in. That's enough for me to even consider cleaning and...
Greetings,
I'm fairly new to muzzle loading, and primarily use as a secondary weapon for a late season hunt when the archery season doesn't pan out to hopefully avoid tag soup. Well, the archery hunt didn't work out this year, so I'm at the muzzle loader bench right now to prep for a November...
Regardless of where you land on spray v. gun, if you are backpack hunting, that should seal the decision.....you cannot reload a spray can after deployment on day 1 of a multi-day hunt. Therefore, after day 1 you have nothing if not carrying a firearm. I'm not opposed to spray, but when more...
started carrying airweight SW .357 after being bluff charged by a black bear when with kids. Glad to have it when being circled by wolves a couple years ago, and once when some suspicious characters were around my base camp when coming off the mountain to change spike camp location, but have...
JR, how do you like your Redcliff vs your SL5? I have run an SL5 for 10+ years and it's about worn out. Debating between Cimmeron and Redcliff as a replacement...
Good list. I add a few nyquil capsuls for sleep if not feeling well, and 4 prescription pain killers. Could keep you from shock if major trauma (personal experince).
Thanks everyone for the input. With the insight, I think I'll get one setup. I have picked up a dozen Victory Rip TKO's. I'll be at around 485gr and shooting pretty fast at my draw length and weight. I'm thinking if I can't get my broadheads to tune, I'll add some backweights and slow it...
Thanks for the reply and advice. This may ultimately be the right answer for me. I have TKO shafts now, and will probably get some heavier arrows too (Axis? or FMJ?) for comparison and see what the "perfect" setup is for me.
After 14 years with a Mathews Drenalin, I am pushing it to the "back-up bow" bench in lieu of a new Mathews V3X 33. I now have the bow and am working on setup, and am wondering if running multiple arrows is worth the hassle. I will be using the bow for Elk, Deer, Bear, and Turkey (and goat if...
I have the Marchway cot you linked and it has survived two Alaskan moose hunts. An insulated air paid and closed cell pad that doubles as sitting pad during the day has worked for me. My experience is the cot will sleep colder than dry ground due to airflow, but also kept me out of the swampy...
Yes, in cold weather. With the regulator, the stove will perform properly in lower temps than without. Getting into single digit temps and stoves without regulator have proven very inefficient for me, but with regulator and a few tricks you can make it work without going to liquid fuel....
Get the tag, plenty of wolves all over Idaho. I shot one bear hunting last spring when it chased a cow elk right through my camp....never know when you'll have an opportunity.
