If I feel ready, and fortune favors my will, I'll get some meat down this season. I won't take a poke at a deer past 15-20 yards. Preferably 10-15 yards.
The 20-40 yard stuff is for fun, maybe 3D someday.
I'm not always as messy as it looks in that vid. Out of integrity I was willing to share it anyways.
Here's some of my winter practice. Same bow, same arrows, but only 14 yards and indoors.
I was a little disappointed with the consistency I was getting shooting those 500/600 spine arrows with the 145gr points, out of the 35# bow, in the vid above.
I had been shooting that combo over the winter, in the garage. Max distance was 14 yards. They seemed reasonably good in that...
So I set up the video cam to help with my self-analysis. I shot one each at 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 yards. Working on the subconscious skill.
I ran through the course about a dozen times. Filmed the first couple. Kind of messy, but it is what it is, practice, building that memory...
Three under, instinctive.
I'm pretty new at this. Just started about a year ago. Tried gap initially, then sort of transitioned into a more instinctive method after I wore out a couple bag targets. I'm focusing on the target, but sort of subconsciously getting a sight picture including the...
To me, they are like night and day.
The Slick Stick is lightweight, cut about center, very snappy. I would not call it 'forgiving' as some bows are described. When I get messy, the bow will definitely give the feedback.
The Discovery feels like an anchor in comparison, but that added...
When mirage turns the target into a dancing blob of color, it's hard to see, hard to hit, and hard to get visual feedback.
When your line-of-sight is close to the ground, it gets much worse. If you can elevate your firing point, the target, or both, it helps.
Here's a short clip where I was...
Thanks for the info guys. I'm mostly shooting a 32" GT Warrior 340 with 250gr field tip.
I have other arrows from 600, 500, and 400 spine. I was doing some bare shaft testing a while back and was surprised to find that the bow handled even the lighter spines well. Even a 30" 600 spine with...
Picked up a Discovery with the 45# R3 limbs a while back.
I'm just using a stick-on rest. Seems to shoot well, but I'm curious if anyone else is shooting a Discovery, and how you have it set up. I was kind of wanting to set it up for shooting off the shelf, but maybe it's best to leave it as...
I see where Great Northern has a 'quick mount' series of quivers that attach via the limb bolts on most 3-piece takedown bows. They also offer adaptors for ILF bows.
Might be worth a look.

I got into this archery addiction (grin) about a year ago. I promptly had a Bear Montana longbow riser blow up on me. That convinced me to go deeper in the pocket and order a Toelke Whip. Went with a 64" Whip, 40# at 28". What a nice bow.
Anyhoo, recently I got around to doing some chrono...
