We will need to figure out exactly what areas he is interested. One thing for sure it will have to pay well and provide lots of time off for hunting. Something I am sure all of us want:) I went to a Big 10 school and would have had more than enough time to bird hunt and fish. I still managed to...
We had a good talk last night about a few options. Mainly being that Alaska really is probably not a great weekend/day hunt state and that a lot of things he wants to do will require boat/plane travel. That adds up pretty quickly. But he makes a great argument: when else in his life is he going...
From my experience there are a lot of good colleges that can offer the field/degree that you are looking for. Yes some are better than others but if its close why not factor hunting/fishing into it. I know I had a ton of free time in college and that was with a sport and a job. If I could go...
My son is starting to look at colleges that he wants to attend. He is a pretty smart kid but his decision will be based heavily on hunting opportunities. His mainly looking at colleges in Alaska, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. He would prefer to go to Alaska but I am not sure being that far from...
I know this is going to be a long shot but does anyone have any leads on the original Quilomene vest. I had one a long time ago and let’s just say I no longer have it. It was the best vest that I have found and would love to get another. I have the Q5 version and it’s not the same.
Any help...
No need for a trophy but will be looking for a solid buck. This is about getting into good country and giving ourselves a chance at something special both in deer and memories.
At 63 he is still in pretty good shape but 6-8 days might be to much for him.
My 16 year old is a beast when it comes...
My son and dad should draw an H tag this year. He will be 63 and my son 16. Trying to really get a grasp on how much preparation I should be doing. We hunted 89 elk a couple years ago and understand the mountains we need to be able to climb. I guess my real questions are around how to plan for a...
Everything once the animal is down. Feel like I can finally breath a little and take my time enjoying the rest of the trip. Everyone is on a high and reliving the hunt
It happens to me all the time. I plan pretty much all of the hunts for my dad and kids and I always get stressed. The reality is the just want to have a good time and enjoy the outdoors. I put the pressure on to make it a great trip.
For those of you that have these did you order the tall pants or regular. I wear a 34X32 and was stuck between which to order. The regulars have a 30inch and the talls have a 32inch inseam
Thanks
Depends on long term or short term. You can get by on pretty much crap if you are tough enough and just want to hunt.
But if it was me
Glass and tri pod - game changing if you are going to do a lot of glassing. Buy once and be one with it - $3000 plus
Pack - I prefer to carry everything out in...
Could have been a lot of things. Maybe to slow for 400 yards. If so will need a new bullet. We don’t take long shots but 400y is sometimes all that is giving.
Could have hit a branch. Pig was moving in the brush.
Won’t blame the bullet but will pay a lot of attention this off-season with the...
Been using the 124 HH for a friends 6.5 Creed the last two season. Found a bullet on the off side hide from a pig last week. Broke the back leg and was in the opposite hip. Roughly 400 yards. It did not open up but lucky broke the back leg and finished it off with one in the neck.
Going to do...
I have taken mine since they were basically old enough to walk. My boys I never held back with them. Gave the a bag of skittles and off we went. One of the best lines long ago from my 6 year old at the time. "Dad we are on top of the clouds" during a Idaho chukar hunt. Last week in utah same...
He will be 16 in May. I know this is a me thing and not him. He will need to figure out things on his own which will be good for him. Like I said I worry a little bit in general but also know that its not right to stop him from something that in the end is part of life. I try not to be a parent...
Well my oldest son is at the age to start hunting on his own. Not sure how I feel about it. I know that 99% of the time everything will be fine but part of me still has a little uneasiness about it. I pretty much start hunting big game at 12 and by 13 it was nothing for my dad to turn me loose...
I quite last year and it still bothers me today. Had a Wyoming General Elk tag for my son and dad. After 5 days my mind just wasn't right. We had a lot of serious family health issues and just could not shake it. Felt I needed to be home when really life was going to be what it was with or...
